Jonathan Giordano Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 9, 2025.
Jonathan Ginsberg Giordano, 39, passed away on February 9, 2025. He would be extremely disappointed to be featured in an ordinary obituary, so let it be known that family, friends, and former students will remember Jon as a prodigious cook, talented math teacher, and tabletop gaming enthusiast whose hit points were finally depleted after a long and difficult battle with cancer. A fan of hosting parties at which he prepared veritable feasts, Jon could easily be located by using a decibel meter and moving in the direction of the highest volume. With his wooden bowtie, asymmetrical glasses, and endless array of Marvel and Dungeons & Dragons T-shirts, one could be forgiven for assuming Jon was simply a nerd. However, his nerdiness was not simple but extraordinary, and was matched only by the size of his heart. Yes, Jon was always willing to give his opinion on topics ranging from the appropriate number of kiwis to eat in a sitting (five) to the quality of the Gundam Wing anime ("terrible") to the culinary status of Chicago-style pizza ("It's casserole!"). But he was also always willing to put his whole heart into educating his students, supporting his friends with kindness and food, and being the best possible husband and dog-father he could be. His wit, care, and grumpiness will be missed in equal measure. With the retirement of Jon's character sheet, the players left at the table include his loving wife, Dr. Allison Giordano; their dog, Mr. Stephen Pibbles; his parents-in-law, Dr. Jim and Mrs. Carole Giordano, and the members of his found family to whom he was a brother in the ways that matter most. Funeral services will take place at the Dierna Funeral Home on Wednesday February 12, 2025 at 11am. Doors open at 10 am. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society in Jon's name.

Despite being of the age now where I've had to become a bit too familiar with the passing of gamer fellows, the joyful few who you sit at a table with, swap stories throw dice and collaborate, it never seems to get any easier.

These are people that you open your heart to, they share theirs as well and a beautiful alchemy results.

Some of these are even more difficult. When a person is such a dynamic nerd that you immediately feel a deep, strong connection with them is even more difficult to let them go and this was Jon's nature.

I will miss him deeply for a very long time likely until shortly before others write similarly of me...

We are deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Giordano's passing. God bless him and his family, he will be missed. My daughter, was a student of Mr. Giordano's at Churchville Chili High School. She struggled in math, but Mr. G. was VERY patient, and understanding, with his students. He would spend time after school and through e-mail, to give his kids every opportunity to learn, understand, succeed, and excel in math. As a parent I appreciated his kindness, compassion, dedication, and communication. Also thought he was just a really cool person, and we loved those awesome square/circle glasses he wore. Thank you for the time spent with my daughter, (she passed her regents thanks to you being the wonderful teacher you were) we are keeping you all in our prayers.

I was in Mr G's first teaching demonstration at Churchville, during his hiring process, when he taught our fourth period geometry class what trigonometry was. He was a huge supporter of music in the district, and whenever we had to miss his class for an intrument lesson, he was excited for you to go and learn what you needed to learn. He was full of enthusiasm, and you could feel it in the air around him. He will be dearly missed.
