Jonathan Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2024.
Jonathan Lisle Williams, a beloved father, grandfather, and esteemed attorney, passed away on May 21, 2024, in Dover, New Hampshire. Born on August 22, 1948, in Bedford, Ohio, Jonathan leaves behind a legacy of adventure and laughter.

Jonathan was known for his sharp wit and charming personality. He had a knack for making those around him feel like the most important person in the room. His strong will and determination led him to a successful 52-year career as an attorney, including his time at the New Jersey Attorney General's office and culminating as a partner at DeCotiis Law. Jonathan specialized in civil litigation, municipal law, and public procurement. He had a proven track record of providing expert legal counsel and representation to state and local entities. One of his greatest accomplishments in the span of his career was the lasting friendships formed among those he worked with.

Outside of his legal career, Jonathan was always happy to share an adventure and found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He was greatly fond of good company, good food, good drinks, and good banter. He was always ready to try something new and exciting. He was a sailor, a skydiver, a scuba diver, and the best partner for a road trip. He was the ultimate enthusiast, from his love for a clear night at the ballpark to his pursuit of the perfect piece of shoofly pie. He was deeply loyal to The Beatles, the Yankees, and an endless eclectic list of books and films, which he loved to share. Life's travels took him many places, but Long Beach Island, New Jersey, held a special place in his heart as a sanctuary for reflection and cherished memories. Jonathan had beloved nooks all over the island, but his most treasured seat was a table at Kubel's in Barnegat Light.

Jonathan's greatest pride and joy were his children, grandson, and three granddaughters (who affectionately called him "Grumpy"). He is survived by his children Justin, Jonathan Jr., Ashley, Anthony, Jack, and Sydney; and his grandchildren Jasper, Ophelia, Lucille, and Winifred. He was loved and valued over the years by Diedre Williams, Rosemarie Williams, and Sandra Kugler. Jonathan played a pivotal role in the lives of numerous nieces and nephews who cared for him deeply. He was extremely grateful to spend his final months in New Hampshire with Stephanie and Iain MacKenzie and Polly and Dave Wessel, who made his last moments "a time of comfort and great cheer."

A private family event to raise a toast to Jonathan will take place at a later date. His memory will forever live on in the stories told by those who knew and loved him.

Jonathan was one of my best friends and colleague for 35 years. I am blessed to have Sydney as my Goddaughter Through the years we shared so many life experiences as we traveled through our years together. He was truly one of a kind with a smile always no matter what was going on in his life. We shared many lunches, dinners and talks. Everyday we were together he talked about his kids and family with pride and so much love. I can´t imagine not being able to share all this with him again but I am so thankful that I was lucky enough to have Jonathan as such an important part of my life. Miss you my friend and I will always love you

There are some people who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains. I love you endlessly, Dad.
