SAN BENITO, TX.-
Jose Aladdin Vega, 86, entered into Eternal Rest with our Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2011.
He was born on December 24, 1924 in San Benito, Texas to the late Apoliano Vega and Petra Lamas Vega. Jose attended Texas Southmost College and received a certificate in mechanics. He served in the United States Navy and heroically fought in World War II. Jose retired from Clark Equipment Company in Aurora, Illinois in 1957 and settled in San Benito, Texas as a business man. He enjoyed being a union representative in Illinois, gardening, cooking, playing pool, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Jose, known as Aladdin by all, will be remembered as a loving husband (soul mate) with a positive attitude and unending wisdom. He will be remembered as a jokester at heart and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Apoliano; his mother Petra; his brothers, Pedro Martinez and Urselo Martinez; and his sister Andrea Martinez.
Jose is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth G. Vega; his children: Joseph A. (Karen) Draughon of Lubbock, Texas, Aldo Davila, Benigno Davila, Leroy Vega, Olga Vega, and the late Onan Vega; his grandchildren: Alessia, Guillermo, and Benny Davila, all from Aurora, Illinois; and his sisters: Consuelo (+Domingo) Vega and Lupe (+Donicio) Garcia.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito, with committal service to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito. Military Honors will be conducted at graveside by American Legion Post 43 John Hanson of Brownsville.
Serving as pallbearers are his son, Aldo Davila; brother-in-laws: Joe Luis, Israel, and Robert Garcia; his nephew, Alan Luis Garcia; and his good friend, Fred Rendon.
