Joseph Cannizzaro, lifelong resident of Randolph, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2018 at the age of 99. Born in Brockton, Joe graduated from Stetson High School, Class of 1937, where he played the quarterback for the football team. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he received several decorations and citations including the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Joe was the manager at Currans Hardware in Randolph for 63 years. He was a charter member of the Amvets and the Vera Cruz Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. A devoted son, brother, uncle and friend, Joe will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Joseph was the son of the late Salvatore and Giovanna (Barravecchio) Cannizzaro. Devoted brother of Theresa Bird of Conn., Geneva Hamilton of Bridgewater and the late Helen Harris, John Cannizzaro and Mary Cameron. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would also like to send a special thank you to his neighbors, Stanley Tran, Tom and Shirley and Francisco Lopes for their care, help and assistance during Joes final years. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, September 19, from 4 | 8 p.m. in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (Rte. 28), Randolph. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 20, at 10 a.m.in St. Bernadette Church, 1031 No. Main St., Randolph. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army in Europe fighting the Germans during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
