It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and devoted husband Joseph Clement. After battling several cancers successfully during his lifetime, a final bout with yet another lung cancer finally felled him. Joe passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, Verna Mae his loving wife of just shy of 65 years, his son Wayne, and daughter Lori.

Born in Hawaii, Joe traveled to the mainland and attended the San Rafael Military Academy. Upon his return to Hawaii, he spent two years in the Army. During this time he had known and fell for the love of his life Verna Mae and they were soon married. They traveled together again to the mainland and lived in Chehalis WA where he graduated from the University of Washington. They then returned to Hawaii where their son Wayne and daughter Lori were born.

Upon moving to California, Joe embarked on a very successful career in the banking and lending business culminating in a retirement from Great Western Savings as a Vice President after 30 years of service. He had an intense passion for playing golf as well as bowling and playing cards with his many friends. His other extreme passions were food and cooking. Each day was planned around the dinner meal and he would delight in the times the family was together to share the specialty of the day that he would prepare. His many recipes and those family times will be truly missed. He will also be remembered as a caring, patient, wonderful man with a great sense of humor and easy-going spirit whose larger than life personality touched so many different people.

The family wishes to thank the support team at Sutter Home Care Hospice for their care and compassion along with Jessie, the caregiver who was present with the family at his passing.

A celebration of his life will take place at the San Mateo Elks Club on June 7, 2014 from 11am to 4pm.

Uncle Joe was the very best. He was as eloquent as he was elegant and more. I'll hold him in my heart and keep all memories of time past. He was the father I never had and loved dearly. I'm saddened for your loss and am grateful that he is no longer suffering. "Aloha Uncle Joe"

Love, Verna Mae
