Joseph Harden DeMONT

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Harden DeMont on March 25, 2021 at the age of 76. After an 8 year battle with cancer he passed peacefully with his family at his side. Preceded by his wife Heather, Dear Companion of Bonnie Henkenlaible, Former wife and cherished friend of Peggy Ling. Loving father of Scott (Kim) DeMont and Denise (Chris) Kelly. Stepfather of Alayna (Andrew) MacGillivray, Patrice (Serge) Hawkes and Melissa (Peter) Bryden. Proud Grandfather of Zackary, Kaley, Madison, Rachael, Tyson, Campbell, Tyler, Dylan, William and Brayden. He leaves behind his brother David and is predeceased by his sister Elaine Keefe and his parents Joe and Gene. Joe was born in Halifax, NS in 1945 and lived there until his family moved to Los Angeles, California in the 1960's. Joe returned to Canada to begin a career with Kresge's Department store in Toronto that eventually led him to St. Catharines in 1972 where he managed a number of stores in the area. In 1979 he began a new career as the General Manager of the Seaway Mall in Welland before eventually moving to Alberta to manage the Sherwood Park Mall in 1993 until his retirement. He spent his retirement snowbirding in the Palm Springs area golfing and enjoying life. Joe loved his family, life, laughing, single malt scotch, golfing with his friends, Nassaus wagers and presses, poker games and fantasy baseball and golf pools. He was the Man's Man's Man. Joe will be fondly missed by his golfing buddies at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Alberta and all his friends in Tri Palms, California. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the amazing Doctors, nurses and staff at Lethbridge Jack Ady Cancer Center, St. Elisabeth Health Care and LHIN Homecare Services of Niagara for their compassionate and attentive care. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with his wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no formal funeral. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold.
