Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
He was born in Lumberton, N.C., a son of the late Joseph Ronald Ford Sr., and Betty Ivey Ford. He was a graduate of Francis Marion University and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War.
He retired after 30 years of service as a police officer and a parole and probation officer with the State Department of Juvenile Justice.
Mr. Ford was a volunteer with the Big Brothers Association. He also coached baseball in Florence youth leagues for over 30 years. He also volunteered with the Solicitors Arbitration program.
Survivors include Kristen (Brad) Holt of Florence, who is a niece but was raised by him as a daughter; two brothers, Karl Brian Ford of Darlington and Michael David (Nancy) Ford Sr., of Florence; and three sisters, Annette (Larry) Bartol, Mary Lynn (Anthony) Stokes, and Jean Rose Ford, all of Florence.

Mr.Ford was a very dear person to me as well as a wonderful Big Brother. He has always meant a lot to me. I was very fortunate to have know such a great, caring and generous man. I'm am very sorry for your loss.

What an individual!! To know Joe Ford was to know one of the most sincere and compasionate people in Florence. He was a person who made a difference and the world is a better place for having him in it. He touched many lives and his spirit and good deeds will live on forever. Godspeed Joe!

What a great guy. He had just told me that 4 years ago the doctors said he had six months. They didn"t know ford. He was responsible for so much in my life. a truly fine friend. go and rest my buddy, you deserve it. Prayers are with the family.
