Joseph Galanti Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2025.
Joseph "Popa Joe" Galanti, 84, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, in Lakeland, Florida. Born on December 9, 1940, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Joe lived a life rooted in devotion to family, service to others, and a deep love for community.

Joe graduated from Lincoln High School in Jersey City and went on to serve his country as a Navy Corpsman from 1960 to 1964. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with United Airlines in Newark, New Jersey and after 39 years, retired in 2001. In 2002, he and his wife relocated to Lakeland, Florida to enjoy their retirement years together.

A devoted husband of 62 years to Diane (Dressler) Galanti, Joe was the proud father of five children: Patricia (Ray); Michele (John); Joseph (Jennifer); Michael (Dena); and Maryann (John). He was also blessed with 13 grandchildren: Raymond, John, Brandon, Nikolai, Alexa, Jacob, Jordan, Josslyn, JP, Alexandra, Matthew, Lauren and Marisa and 7 great-grandchildren: Victoria, Emma, Kaedan, Audrey, Myles, Dante and Derek who brought him immense joy throughout his life.

Joe's love for family extended far beyond the home. Known affectionately by many as "Popa Joe," he was a constant presence at sporting events for both his children and grandchildren. Whether cheering from the sidelines or volunteering behind the scenes, he found great fulfillment in supporting their activities. His dedication was especially evident during his years volunteering with his son's Golden Knights football program and with Iselin AA Little League baseball teams in Iselin, New Jersey. Joe also enjoyed all the years of good times and vacations with close friends that were like family.

Joe grew up in Jersey City, NJ, bought his first home in Cranford, NJ then spent 30 years in Iselin, NJ before moving to Lakeland, Florida upon retirement.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosalie and Harry Galanti, as well as his sister Elaine Galanti.

Joseph "Popa Joe" Galanti will be remembered for the unwavering love he showed his family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. Burial will be held on August 8, 2025, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL with an honorable military ceremony. A Celebration of Life to follow at 2pm ~ Lake Crago Complex, Lakeland, Florida, 525 Lake Crago Dr., Lakeland, FL 33805. To Michael and his immediate and extended family. My condolences to you. As a naturalized citizen, it overwhelms my heart to read a story of a life well lived. A life of a native born American son. We, who believe in life ever after, will meet again, and never be alone. from A.Olavi Karvonen CS, FL

David and I had the wonderful privilege of meeting Joe and Diane on our visit to Lakeland in 2023 at their son Joe´s home. The love and joy displayed there is an excellent testament to the teachings of Joe and Diane in raising their children.
We would like to offer our most sincere condolences at the passing of this beloved man. He will surely be missed by many.
