Joseph Gallo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2020.
Joseph Francis Gallo passed away peacefully on November 11, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Born in Norristown on February 23, 1933, Joe was the beloved son of the late Frank and Frances Gallo (nee Calamia). Joe graduated in 1950 from Norristown High School, and graduated from Peirce School of Business in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War in the 4th Army and was Honorably Discharged. His love & talent for accounting and tax law stayed with him for the rest of his life. He was a member of the Norristown Area School Board and played a big part in relocating the High School and Administration building to the current day campus on Whitehall Rd in West Norriton Township. Joe also worked for the establishment of the VoTech system in Montgomery County. Early in his career, he worked as an Auditor for Cooper & Lybrand and met the love of his life, Sally, while on assignment. He entered the healthcare field as the Comptroller for Sacred Heart Hospital. He then went on to work as the Chief Financial Officer at the PCOM in Philadelphia, and at Charter-Fairmont Hospital, and then served as the Executive Director of the Montgomery Bar Association for many years while he raised his family. Joe managed his own Certified Public Accountant firm in Norristown until his retirement in his 80's, and continued his involvement in civil & professional associations long after, such as the Norristown Rotary, the Pennsylvania Society of Public Accountants, and served on the board of the CPA Continuing Education Society of Pennsylvania in Blue Bell. As much as Joe loved being active in his community, he was even more devoted to his family. Spending time with his devoted wife, Sally Gallo (nee Bennett), provided Joe his greatest joys during their 60-year marriage. He cherished every moment spent with his son, David (Lela), & daughters, Melissa McLaughlin (Vincent), and Cecilia Bergen. "PapaJoe" was so very proud of his grandchildren, Alaric, Cynthia, Paige, and Sabrina and dreamed big for each one of them. He spoke often about how he enjoyed his lunch dates with his brother Frank Gallo & his late brother Ben Gallo. He loved to share stories of moments in the past with his late sister, Connie Gallo. Family parties and events with his brothers' families were something Joe cherished with fondness, especially his time hanging around the pool at the home of his nephew, Ben Gallo. Joe was a wealth of knowledge and history and he will be missed for his stories that sometimes went on a little longer than they should. He made friends wherever he went, and you could always count on Joe for an interesting story and a positive outlook on life. In his quiet moments, he loved to read anything from novels, to business articles, to history. He always had a collection of maps nearby to reference places and historic events, and preferred classic jazz music playing in the background. He loved road trips to anywhere at any time, loved floating in the ocean, playing with the kids on the beach, and watching football or binge watching a TV series with Sally by his side. Joe was always available to come to the rescue of anyone, humans & animals alike. Joe was well liked and will be missed by those whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joseph F. Gallo can be made to the American Diabetes Association (Diabetes.org) Due to current Coronavirus concerns, services will be held at a later date. Tears are in my eyes as I recall Joe and the good times we shared.
He had a big heart and was kind to everyone. I was lucky to have him as a friend. A extra good man.
His legacy is the wonderful family that misses him very much.
May his memory be a blessing to all who mourn him.

A beautiful and very exact story of Joe and his busy and, more importantly, kindness filled life. Learned too much too late about this man who gave my cousin Sally so many memories of a life shared with love. You will be missed, Joe, by Jan and me and so many more. We are so sorry.
