Joseph R. Garneau

Joseph R. Garneau, 78, of West Hartford, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Barbara M. (Antaya) Garneau for 54 years. Born in Madawaska, ME, son of the late Alcide and Doris (Nadeau) Garneau, he was a longtime Hartford resident prior to moving to West Hartford 25 years ago. Joseph served his country honorably for eight years in the U.S. Army and spent over five years stationed in Germany. He was previously employed at Pratt and Whitney and retired from ShopRite. Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, word searches, scratch tickets and going home to Maine. Along with his wife, he leaves his daughter Catherine Tome and her husband Gil of West Hartford, and four grandchildren, Samantha and Brandon Tome and Brittany and Robert Garneau. He also leaves his two brothers, Ray and Michael Gorneau and three sisters, Julianna Lyon, Geraldine Sidmore and Louise Pooler and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Steven J. Garneau, and his four brothers, Richard, Robert, Gerald and Louis Gorneau. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 3rd, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a service and military honors at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be private in the CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
