Joseph Holden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 20, 2010.
OSTERVILLE — Joseph P. Holden (Joe), age 79, of Osterville passed away on July 17, 2010 after a five-month struggle with heart failure. Family members surrounded Joe with their love, company and comfort over Joe's last few months.

Born in Fall River, Mass. March 17, 1931. He went to Durfee High School and continued his education by receiving a degree from Bryant College in Business Administration. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for National Cash Register for years.

Joe was a man of great devotion to his family and the church. Church was a daily stop for Joe for a long time. He loved to be with family and friends telling stories and jokes, and he was always listening for new ones. If a song was being sung Joe would be looking to play a piano or join the singing. Golf was a passion of Joe's through the years; he played until his health prohibited it and then followed it as a fan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Dolores (Aguiar) Holden; daughters Colleen Holden and partner Jennie Mignone of Orleans, Tricia Law and husband John of Bernard, Maine, and son Joseph P. Holden Jr. and wife Tricia of Tyngsboro, Mass. Grandchildren Lara Law, Avery Law, Margo Holden and Donovan Holden. Brothers and Sisters, Claire Domanski of Mt. Laurel, N.J., William Holden of Wilburham Mass., John Holden of Mt. Laurel, N.J., Paul Holden of Fall River and Anne Sullivan of Mashpee. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Agnes Holden, daughter Joyce Holden and brothers Richard, David & James.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21 in the John-Lawrence Funeral home, 3778 Falmouth Rd. (Rte. 28), Marstons Mills. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 at Our Lady of Assumption Parish, Wianno Ave., Osterville. Burial in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.

Memorials in his name may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.

To Joe's family: I saw Joe often at Shaw's Market and on my daily 4 mile walk through Osterville. I will miss his friendly conversations and wave from his car. He always inquired about my children and wanted to know if I had taken my walk yet! I did not know he was sick and am so sorry for your loss...
