Joseph Kaminski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 16, 2024.
Joseph Arthur Kaminski, known affectionately as Joey, passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 62 in Oak Park, Illinois. Born in Chicago on February 28, 1962, to Shirley Surwill Kaminski and the late Robert A. Kaminski, Joey grew up in a close-knit family alongside his brother Robert and sister Susan.

Joey attended St. Andrews Lutheran for his primary education before graduating from Kelly High School. He dedicated a significant portion of his life to service in the Navy, where he took great pride in his role as a Porter, contributing diligently to the operations and welfare of his shipmates and the fleet.

After his honorable discharge, Joey continued to serve in a civilian capacity at the US Navy, a testament to his deep commitment to his fellow servicemen and women. His work, often behind the scenes, was crucial in maintaining the day-to-day operations that kept everything running smoothly.

Joey is survived by his loving mother, Shirley; his brother, Robert; his wife, Dr. Jean Thiry; his sister, Susan, and her husband, Bud Villarreal; as well as his nephew, Nicolas and his wife, Nicky; and niece, Dr. Christine Hude and her husband, Paul. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Kaminski.

Joey will be remembered for his quiet strength, resilience, and the care he extended to his family and friends. His legacy of service and dedication will resonate with all who knew him, both in and out of uniform.

So sorry to hear of Joey´s passing. We joined the Marching Band at NIU at the same time, and I have to say with a grin, Joey made his presence known in a fun-loving way. I hope his rest is peaceful.
