JOSEPH THOMAS MEDAGLIA May 19, 1914 - February 2, 2005 Passed away peacefully at home with his family and wonderful caregiver, Nattie Cuesta, of one and a half years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Rachela Medaglia. The first love of his life, Lelia Alfretta, were married for 69 1/2 years. He adored his family and will be sadly missed by his son, Thomas and wife, Patricia and daughter, Sharon and husband, Kenneth. Also grandchildren, Kathy, Mike, Tony and Valerie Machado and Michael Medaglia and great grandchildren, Kristin and Angela Wheeler and Rachele and Collin Machado. He also leaves his beloved brother, Frank Medaglia and sisters, Josephine Crowley and Lorraine Lazarus and brother-in-law, Ken Crowley. Joseph was born in San Francisco and was raised and attended school in Alameda. He attended Alameda High School and played varsity baseball and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals at the age of seventeen. He also played American Legion baseball and played softball for many years, the second love of his life. He worked for and retired from the Alameda Unified School District after thirty-five years. He was a member of the Italian American League and loved the Tuesday afternoon Bocce Ball at Lincoln Park. Family and friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial on February 7, 2005 at St. Alberts Catholic Church, 1022 Holly St., Alameda on February 7, 2005 at 10:00. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, CA. Recitation of the Rosary will precede the funeral, 9:00 a.m. at the Greer Family Mortuary, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda.
