I met Joe in the 80s when we started Waseskun House in Point St. Charles. He let us use his building as a half way house for Indigenous men being released from incarceration. Good man. Good memories.

Dear Carole & Families,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Joe, & unfortunately I was not in town when he passed, but I did say a silent prayer in memory of Joe. It is not easy to lose a loved one as important as he was in your lives, & may the many happy memories you shared together as a family help ease the pain in the difficult days ahead. Rest in Heavenly Peace Joe, you leave a lasting legacy.
Sincere condolences,
Millie

Dear Carole and family ,
My heart is with you at this challenging time. Joe has left his mark on the community in so many ways. Let his legacy bolster you while you adjust to his loss.
My Gus (O'Gorman) always said that Joe was a Giant of a man, understated, unjudgemental and constantly giving. What a legend.
With sincere empathy,

Dear Carole and family,
Our sincere sympathy to you all on losing dear Joe. He was a man of great compassion and strength of character. His mission in life was to help others. He did it with resolve and good humour and without fanfare. Whenever his name came up in conversation it was invariably linked with reverence and respect. The city of Montreal has lost a great citizen, a true 'man of the people.' We are just honoured and grateful to have known him. There will never be another one like him.
Warmest regards.

Such sad news. Extending my sincere sympathy to you, Carole and family. At the same time, very happy I was in attendance the year Joe's good deeds, achievements and life were celebrated as "Irishman of the year". Indeed a life to be proud of and one that was well lived. Thinking of you all, Ruthie

Canada, Montreal and our beloved Pt. St. Charles has lost a giant. Joe Mell touched more lives than can ever be counted. How many of us would be where we are today without his generosity and guidance? Leo's Boys, a massively successful sports organization Joe founded in the memory of his brother, set many young men and women on promising and productive paths instead of street corners. And, as a person, he was every bit as much of a giant. RIP Joe, you will be greatly missed.
