Joseph A. Mullen, age 69, from Bensalem, Pennsylvania, peacefully departed from this world on April 16, 2024, after bravely battling cancer for two years. He was born on July 20, 1954, to Macolet Cosentino Mullen and Joseph A. Mullen. He graduated from Roxborough High School.

Joe was an adored and revered figure within the local jazz community, where he left an indelible mark as a percussionist, composer, and drum instructor. His exceptional talent resonated with audiences and fellow musicians alike, earning him a special place in the hearts of many. Joe's irreverent sense of humor brought laughter to countless individuals, and his wit was known for its sharpness and distinctive charm. Joe frequently performed alongside esteemed musicians in the Philadelphia area, and his absence will be deeply felt within the jazz scene.

Beyond his musical pursuits, Joe was recognized for his adeptness in Texas Holdem, showcasing his skill at Parx Casino. Additionally, he shared camaraderie and laughter with his colleagues during his part-time work at Hertz.

Joe is survived by his dedicated partner of over 35 years, Gail Grant, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He also leaves behind his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Alan Speer, as well as his cherished nephews and niece, Michael Speer, Richard Speer, and Diana VanDruff.

Joseph A. Mullen's departure from this world is deeply mourned, but his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary musical talent, a sharp and irreverent sense of humor, and unwavering love for those who were dear to him. May he rest in eternal peace.

It's been a year and three months, and I miss you as much as day one. I like to think the cardinals I am seeing, doing funny things, are a sign of love from you. RIP, sweet Joe.

I leave my condolences to his family. I did not know him but only the name "Joseph Mulle" popped up in a dream I just had. My spiritual journey makes me want to reach out to human beings regardless of whether or not I know them and wish them peace.

RIP Uncle Joe. I'll always remember how much fun we had around the holidays and playing poker. You taught me so much about the drums and I always loved to hear you play. I hope your back at it now playing the drums and having fun around the poker table.

Rest in peace my dear uncle. You will be missed greatly and I will cherish our memories together. I have you to thank for my great sense of humor and love of card games. Playing 500 rummy and Texas Holdem won´t be the same without you around. I´ll make sure to never take it easy on the old folks at the "limit" card table in your honor.

Love, your nephew Rick
