Joseph Policastro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2018.
Mr. Joseph " Joe" J. Policastro, passed away on October 8, 2018 at the age of 70. After a battle with cancer he died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.

Joe was born on January 5, 1948 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late John and Christine (Pappalardo) Policastro. He graduated from Lincoln High School. Upon graduation he went to work with SeaLand Shipping Company in the late 60's. In February 1971 he joined the Jersey City Police Department and retired as a Detective in 1996. He lived in Florida where he ran BINGO Halls for several years prior to moving to Las Vegas, NV in 2004.

Joe was definitely a character. He left an impression with all who met him. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a real jokester, who loved to stir the pot. He loved his family immensely, especially his daughters and grandsons. Loved teaching his grandsons' things like bowling, pizza making, fishing and about the stars and planets. He showed his family the meaning of vacationing, especially cruising. He loved being with his family, but even more so on the high seas. He spent his free time watching sports or hanging out at the Silverton Casino. His sense of humor, his smirky smile and his witty one-liners will be missed.

He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Campanella and her husband Antonio Campanella, Johanna Smith and her husband Kenneth Smith, his brother, John and his wife Felicia "Lee" Policastro; sisters, Phyllis (Tom) Konen and Bella (John) D'Altilio; and grandchildren, Jordan and Logan Smith, Nino Campanella and by countless nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, book yourself a trip - he would have wanted that.

The family invites donations in Joseph's name to Nathan Adelson Hospice and St. Jude.

Friends and family are welcome to attend the celebration of life service on Friday, November 16th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Please contact the family for details.

Uncle Joe was the best! Lots of great memories growing up: rides in the VW bus, horseshoe games, stickball, and taking his nieces and nephews to the track where we learned finer point$ of horse racing. His great love of family and enthusiasm was always fun to be around, and will be greatly missed.

We always enjoyed Joe's company when we came to visit "out west". He would make sure we were enjoying our stay by giving us tips of where to go and of course we'd meet up at the Silverton. I'll never forget when he was able to get use of a large houseboat from the Silverton I think, He took a whole group of friends and family out on Lake Mead for the day. We all had such a great time! Thank you Joe for that memory. I was sad to hear of his suffering, and I know that part is over, but I am deeply saddened that he is gone from our world.
