Joseph Sitter Obituary
March 17th, 1927 - September 1st, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Joseph Sitter, peacefully in his sleep after a brief but courageous battle with the medical challenges thrown at him late in his life. He will be tremendously missed by his two children, Joanne Armstrong (Brad) and Ryan Sitter; his grandchildren Jason, Jordan and Katherine; as well as his remaining relatives and many good friends. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Evelyn (2008); his brothers, Tony and Frank; sister, Suzie; and parents Ernest and Katharina.
Dad was born in Sokolovac, Croatia, emigrated to the small town of Gronlid, Saskatchewan at the age of 7, and moved as a young man to the lower mainland where he lived the remainder of his life. He built a very successful furniture manufacturing business (C & S Furniture) and after retirement, it allowed him more time to enjoy his membership and many friends at Point Grey golf course in Vancouver. He also loved spending his holidays with his family and friends at his cabin on Sheridan lake, as well as enjoying travelling abroad with Evelyn and friends to different locations.
He will be remembered as a man of great integrity, who was totally devoted to his role as the provider and protector of his family. His sense of humour, his strength of character, his leadership and generosity will be missed greatly by his family and all who knew him. A humble man, he shunned any hint of praise or commendation, but we were blessed to simply observe over our lifetimes how well liked and respected our father was with almost everybody who met him. The world will simply not be the same without him in it, but we take comfort knowing he is surrounded now by all those who left before him and dearly loved him, as he did them.
By his request, there will not be a funeral, but there will be a notice of his Celebration of Life in the coming days. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner for their incredible care of Dad in his final weeks. We could not have found more compassionate and loving people. In lieu of flowers and if so inclined, the family would greatly appreciate a donation to the people who took care of him in his final days.
May you rest in eternal peace surrounded by God's greatest angels and the people who love you, Dad. You shall be forever loved, remembered, and greatly missed... until we meet again, dear Father...

To Ryan and Joanne and families,
Joe was an amazing man and although Brian just passed away I know he would want to share memories of your Dad.
Joe was Brian's boss at C & S Furniture for 18 years but also a good friend. Joe helped nurture Brian, the seventeen year old, into a responsible, dedicated employee which served him well in later years and he never forgot it. We both always felt welcome at their home in Richmond or later in Surrey and Joe was always there with offers to share a drink or two.
He will be remembered and missed. You were lucky to have such a wonderful and loving father.

There will be a celebration of Dad's life on Sunday, Sept 18th. Elgin Hall, 14250 Crescent Road in South Surrey. 2 - 4pm. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing memories of Dad. Thank you.

I will never forget our Christmas breakfasts with you. The 'soulse'...aka head cheese was your favourite and Mom was so happy that you loved to come just for that. I know you are dancing with Auntie Ev, Grandma, Auntie Judy, Mom and many more who I didn't know. Auntie Judy is probably playing her guitar and you are all singing Red River Valley and You are my Sunshine...and having a grand old time! I can see it now; you had so many who loved you. May that bring comfort to Joanne and Brad, Ryan, your grandchildren and all those who hold your memory dear. Until we all meet again. Love you.
