JOSEPH A. VEVODA

VEVODA, JOSEPH A. Joseph A. Vevoda, 88, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Joe was born on February 16, 1924 in Oakland, CA. He was raised in San Francisco and attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory School and later the University of San Francisco. During World War II, Joe served in the Merchant Marines. He married Joan Fitzgerald on May 5, 1951. Joe had a fulfilling 38 year career with Pfizer Pharmaceutical before his retirement. Joe loved baseball and volunteered as a Little League coach for many years. He was also an avid tennis player and runner. Joe was a member of the Church of St. Timothy and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by wife, Joan; daughters, Julie Vevoda Smith, Janice Vevoda, Cece (Monte) Bible, Nancy (David) Rose; son, Timothy Vevoda; sister, Betty (Lloyd) King; brother, Ronald (Lyla) Vevoda; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by son, Paul Vevoda; and brothers, Robert Vevoda and John Vevoda. The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Church of St. Timothy in Escondido, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. The Committal will be private. Arrangements are by Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. We will miss him always and love him forever.
