JOE WEIL
Urbandale

Joseph (Joe) Weil, 89, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Community Living Center, CLC Rehab. at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. A Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the service where the family will greet friends and relatives. Private burial of his cremated remains will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Dallas Center, Iowa on what would have been Joe's 90th birthday, March 10, 2015.

Joe was born March 10, 1925, the son of John and Carolyn Weil and raised on the family farm near Waukee. He graduated from Waukee High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Naval Air Corps V-5 program. Prior to being sent to the South Pacific, he attended Northwest Teachers College, William Jewel College and the University of Iowa. Joe spent four years in the service then joined the Postal Service as a railway mail clerk out of Des Moines and Chicago for five years. He then was employed by Albers Milling, a specialty feeds division of Carnation Co., as a sales representative in eight different states. He retired after 30 years with the company as District Manager.

In earlier years, Joe enjoyed helping with little league, fishing in Minnesota and Canada, playing golf, and working in his yard. In later years he enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader.

Joe is survived by his wife, Maxine; two sons, Jim (Clare) Weil of West Des Moines and Scott (Fran) West of Newton, Iowa; daughter; Kim (Jeff) Weeks of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Allen of Waverly, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Hannah Weil of Waukee and Phyllis Weil of Adel; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Madelyn Overman; and brothers, Francis and Leo Weil.

We want to thank Father Mark Neal, Anne Dols, Sr. Joyce Blum, and Anita Holub for five years of serving communion to Joe when he was unable to attend mass. Also many thanks to Dr. Benjamin and her staff at CLC Rehab. Veterans Hospital, for their professional care and compassion. And thanks for our friends, Harold Scebold, Elaine Sorensen and Noel Nicholas for always being there for us.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa's Catholic Church or the Guillain-Barre Foundation.
