Josephine Janssen Obituary
She was born in Medan, Indonesia on April 29, 1955, the daughter of the late Herbert Janssen and Nancy Janssen Currier. Josie was educated in New Hampshire schools and continued her education at Alfred University where she studied Psychology and Art Therapy. She received her Master's Degree in Social Work from Simmons College.
Ms. Janssen was a private family therapist at Psychotherapy Associates in Pittsfield for 30 years. She was an accomplished watercolor artist, a dedicated flutist in Pittsfield's Eagle's Band, a traveler, dancer, gardener, seamstress. Josie was a political activist and participated in meet ups and rallies to promote social and environmental justice.
Josie was an active member of the Pittsfield Community and was dedicated to the betterment of the world around her. She gave endless love and support to her family, friends, colleagues, and clients.
Besides her mother and stepfather: Nancy and Philip Currier of Bedford, NH; Josephine is survived by her son: Tyrone S. Janssen of Pittsfield; her daughter: Molly J. Saldo of Boston, MA; her step children: Jason Saldo, Justin O'Brien, Alicia Bartosik, Seth Bartosik, and Ashley Bartosik; and her close friend and caregiver Lauren Prezioso; her brothers Peter W. Janssen of Bangkok, Thailand; and James Currier (and his wife Trina) of Palo Alto, CA; her sister: Danielle M. Currier of Lynchburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Herbert Janssen; and her two former husbands: Shaun Saldo and Michael Bartosik.
FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be a Celebration of Josie's Life on Wednesday, SEPTEMBER 27, 2017 at 5:00 PM at the Unitarian Church on Wendall Ave in Pittsfield. All are welcome. Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Sea Turtle Conservancy or the US National Park Service, in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.

I was a client of Josie for many years and I cannot imagine how different things could have been without her kind voice offering the best advice and kind heart listening to what I was going through. Giving me the courage to change the things I could, confront the issues at hand, and understanding that some things are just out of our control. I feel so blessed to have the pleasure of meeting this sweet soul and I send my deepest sympathies to all that are missing her. The world lost one hell of a person ❤

I have been a client of Josie's for 5 years: through high school and some of college. She was always caring, compassionate, genuine and understanding. She helped me so much to see things from a new perspective and to be kinder to myself. I will miss smiling face and kind words so very much. Her family is in my prayers.

Josie and I have painted watercolors for years. She will always be remembered as the finest and most modest and humble persons I have known. Josie, a job well done! She has been a wonderful mother to those two lovely children, Tyrone and Molly, and evidently she was their role model as they are both following in her footsteps. And to Josie's Mom and Dad - Josie left an indelible spot in my memory and through the years she talked of you lots. You were a comfort to her. We will all miss Josie and may she be forever blessed in Heaven.
