Joyce Hester Hammonds

Services for Joyce Hester Hammonds, 69, of Thomasville, are at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at First Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. I.L. Mullins Sr. will officiate and interment is in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers are her grandsons. Mrs. Hammonds died Aug. 1 at Phoebe Worth in Sylvester, Ga. Born Aug. 5, 1959, in Thomas County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John and Mattie Hester. She was married to Helon Hammonds, who preceded her in death, in Sylvester, Ga. She attended Douglass High School and was a homemaker. Survivors include daughters, Sebrena (Timmy) Thomas of Thomasville, Joycelyn (Gregory) Walker of Sylvester, Cassandra Frederick of Thomasville; sons, Keith Hester of Thomasville, Ronald (Tirzah) Greene of Texas, Willie (Charlene) Frederick of Thomasville, Calvin Greene of Thomasville; sisters, Hattie Carr of Cincinnati, Ohio, Annie (Melrose) Walden of Beachton, Virginia (Christopher) Glenn of Thomasville, Barbara Robinson of North Carolina, Faye Brown of Leary; brothers, Ronald Hester (Emma) Salahuddia of California, Charles (Marguerite) Hester of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Hester of Miami, Fla.; aunt, Agnes Ward of Thomasville; sister-in-law, Alberta Hester of Thomasville; 27 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a very devoted friend, Wilbur Hill; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
