Judith Zelman

ZELMAN, Judith Peacefully, in hospital, on Saturday February 3, 2007, at the age of 39 years, after a brief battle with breast cancer. Beloved wife of Eron Main. Loving mother of Isaac and Susan. Judith will be missed by her parents Maier, Marion, Peggy, and the late Bill; her sister Margaret Law and brother Michael Zelman; and the Main family, Jon, Lynn, Teri, Bill and their families. Judith was passionate about wheelchair sports, representing Canada as an athlete at several Paralympic Games and world championships in athletics and wheelchair rugby. Following her retirement from competition she remained a committed volunteer in sport for athletes with a disability. Judith was a member of Girl Guides of Canada for over 30 years. She was also dedicated to her long career with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, where she remained at work until the week of her death. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Tuesday, February 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Rideau Park United Church, 2203 Alta Vista Drive, on Wednesday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m., followed by private cremation. Special thanks to Dr. Stan Gertler, nurse Jennifer Lair and the staff of the Ottawa Hospital Regional Cancer Centre for their care of Judith over the past year, and to the staff of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus Emergency Room for making her comfortable in her last hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association. Judith's courage, joy, and passion for life touched the hearts of everyone who knew her, and she will be missed.
