Judy Bates Rogers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 10, 2013.
Judy Coleen Bates Rogers, owner of Industrial Steam Cleaners in Jackson, died suddenly from a brain hemorrhage on, Friday, August 9, 2013, in Jackson. Visitation will be Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Baldwin Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
Ms.Rogers was born in Jackson on August 6, 1945, the daughter of Elijah Bates and Coreane Bates. She, along with her husband Ernest Lazarus Rogers, Sr., until his death, served customers in central Mississippi, providing and servicing steam cleaners and pressure washers. Subsequent to her husband's passing, Ms. Rogers assumed full ownership and operation of the business over the last three years. Always finding the fun in life, Ms. Rogers delighted in spending time with her family, especially playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence, and held dear the ladies in her Sunday School class. She loved to travel, with trips shared with friends and family to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, being her favorite. Judy Rogers was blessed with creative talent, particularly as a seamstress, giving of herself creating garments for her loved ones. Also, she gave and received joy in hosting her children and their families to share her good cooking. Ms. Rogers reveled in networking via the internet with her many friends and family, always embracing the latest technology. Perhaps her fondest hobby was genealogy, logging countless hours at the Mississippi Historical Archives, and online, researching her family's lineage. She was a huge Elvis fan known to flood her house with his gospel performances on Sunday mornings to get her four children up and ready for church.
Ms. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, father and mother. She is survived by sons, Timothy Scott Rogers of Florence and Ernest Lazarus Rogers, Jr. and wife Amber of Madison; daughters, Trenia Marcel Rogers Ainsworth and husband Joey of Magee and Tammy Ernesta Rogers Collins and husband Chris of Union; brothers, Bobby Bates and wife June, and Charles Bates and wife Patricia; sisters, Janet Bates and significant other Kevin Bartholomew, Linda Bates Williams and husband Fred, and Marilyn Peyton and husband Wes; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and her dogs, Jackie, Penny and Dixie.

Judy was a kind, loving, and funny friend. She was our e-mail communication prayer person. When she first started sending the e-mail prayer list she would pray short sweet prayers, but over the last several years her prayers came straight from God's heart. We at First Baptist Sunday School will miss her prayers. I will miss her funny dry wit. She could make you laugh so hard. Judy, I'm so glad God put you in my life. We will be praying for each one of your family members, that God will give you comfort when you need it most. We will be there if you need us.

I will always remember Judy's laugh. Her laugh made me laugh. She was generally very quiet except at our annual Sunday School Christmas socials. On those occasions we sometimes had White Elephant parties. That is when Judy was no longer the reserved, self-effacing lady of the class. Instead she would jump in and aggressively go after whatever it was that she wanted. This was a whole new side of Judy we rarely saw but oh, so loved and enjoyed. She will be missed for a very long time.

My prayers go out to all of Judy's family. She was such a fun person; smile was always on her face in Sunday School. It did not seem quite the same with her chair vacant this morning. We will miss her so much but know that we will see her again one day.
