Judy Reamer Cox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2025.
Judy Cox peacefully passed away on January 22, 2025. We believe she is now with her brother and parents in a better place. She was just short of her 86th birthday.

Judy lived a full life with great friends, a loving family, and a dedication to her faith. Judy was passionate about her three children and six grandkids - bragging about them to anyone who would listen. Judy spent the last 12 years at Woodland Village in San Marcos where she had a variety of friends through regular Mahjong and poker games as well as book clubs. Judy was always quick to tell you a story or rave about her long-time canine companion, Dash, who passed two years ago.

Judith Ann Reamer was born February 17, 1939 in Rochester, New York. She spent her youth in nearby Fairport with her younger brother Rick (d. 2022) and parents, David and Marie. Most of Judy's family were from upstate New York of which she was very proud. Judy attended Cornell University where she was an economics major. After graduating she took a job with Merrill Lynch in New York City working on the trading desk.

Judy married Bill Cox in 1962 and they moved to San Diego in 1966. There Judy was involved in the Junior League, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and other local groups. She was also part of the national leadership group for Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity. And most importantly, Judy was active in her three children's lives - coaching, cheering and encouraging.

In later years Judy remained active. She honed her interest in birds as a docent in the Bataquitos Nature Preserve and she was a proud member of the Cornell Ornithology Lab. She loved her trips to Warner Springs to explore the outdoors. And she always reveled in attending Cornell reunions to reconnect with her old college friends. Judy was also a member of the North County New Horizons Band where she played the oboe.

Judy was a devoted grandmother, mother and friend. Judy was always learning and had a keen desire to "figure it out". She was an avid reader, a devilish card player and a great storyteller - with the occasional flourish.

Judy Cox is survived by her three children: Jim Cox (Justina), Ted Cox (Angela) and Katie Seidenwurm (Rob); and six grandchildren (Will, Brianna, Charlie, Sierra, Owen and Nate).

A memorial service will be announced shortly.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Kaiser Zion hospital for their amazing compassion and dedication towards the end of Mom's time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the Helen Woodward Animal Center (animalcenter.org)

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, 2/15/25 at 3pm at Village Church: 6225 Paseo Delicias, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067

We join all of you, family and friends, who are grieving our loss of such a dear and special person as Judy was and in our hearts always will be. Judy has been in our lives for more years than we can count, maybe close to 60! We've been together with her through so many happy times, times of hard work with charity projects, our Kappa lives, and even some pretty difficult times. Her inspiring attitude, great ideas, and compassion were contagious for any who were around her. She particularly shined in many positions she so ably held in Kappa Kappa Gamma both locally in San Diego and nationally in Fraternity positions. Judy served the national Kappa magazine, The Key, as book editor for 4 years and was also a national Kappa Fraternity Standing Committee member as Chapter Public Relations chairman for another 4 years, helping almost 100 collegiate chapters develop and execute successful PR programs. She read Kappa scholarship applications and also served as treasurer for her alumnae association. It's hard to condense all she accomplished. Her impact on all her involvements truly radiates throughout a wide stretch of our nation. But we love to remember the fun and good times we shared and will always remember with heartfelt love.
As we say in Hawaii, "A Hui Hou" Judy - Until we meet again -
