Juleen Flanigan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2025.
In Loving Memory of

JULEEN PIDERIT FLANIGAN

April 10, 1947-September 19, 2025

The family and friends of Juleen P. Flanigan mourn her passing with heavy hearts, and give thanks for the grace, compassion and kindness that she brought to all who knew her.

Her life will be celebrated in a funeral service at St. Mary's Church in Bethel, CT on Oct. 18th, 10AM, to be followed by a reception in the parish hall. Family, friends and colleagues are all welcome.

For 38 years Juleen shared her life with her loving husband, Raymond J. Flanigan. Even after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2018, Ray was always there for her, rearranging his schedule to provide comfort and care.

Juleen was born on April 10, 1947, the fourth child of Fred W. Piderit Jr. and Mary M. Piderit of Richmond Hill, New York, whose children would eventually number twelve in all: Fred, John, Mary Alanah, Cecily, Celeste, Ann, Francis, Clare, Edward, Thomas and Joie de Marie.

Juleen attended Holy Child Jesus Catholic School, graduating in 1960, before advancing to Convent of the Sacred Heart on 91st Street in Manhattan, followed by the College of New Rochelle from 1964-1966 and then Molloy College of Rockville Centre, graduating in 1968. She pursued graduate studies at Fordham University, receiving a Master's Degree in social work in 1982.

Juleen's professional career began with work in Early Intervention programs, coordinating services for children with special needs, and culminating in twenty-three years of service as Director of Early Childhood Services at EdAdvance," her colleagues recalled her as "a powerful influence on all who had the privilege of working with her. She developed individuals to their fullest capacities and enhanced every colleague she touched."

In all aspects of her life as loving wife, mother and grandmother, Juleen left a lasting impression through her sweetness of spirit and acts of kindness. Juleen is survived by her husband, Raymond J. Flanigan, former partner Brien O'Callaghan Sr., son Brien McGinty O'Callaghan, his wife Tracy and their children Lorna and Delaney, son Shannon Rory O'Callaghan, his wife Susan and their children Collin, Cameron and Dillon. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Teepa Snow's "Snow Approach Foundation." snowapproach.org

Juleen was my supervisor, mentor and dearest friend. She was guided by her beliefs and values in everything she did. Juleen recognized leadership qualities in others and supported her staff in developing their skills. Juleen´s visionary talents improved the lives of children, families, programs and systems. I was so lucky to be a part of her team. Although Alzheimer´s diminished her capacities it never destroyed her essence. Through her smile, laughter and kindness she continued to transform us. I will forever be grateful to have been influenced by Juleen in my career and life.
