MARGARETVILLE _ Julia Mary Cantwell, 90, of Margaretville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, following a brief illness, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Margaretville.
Julia was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Arena, the youngest daughter of
John and Rose (Kallay) Tirpak.
She married Ralph L. Cantwell on Aug. 28, 1944, in Margaretville. He died Jan. 6. 1981.
Julia graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1936, and attended SUNY Delhi. She worked in the office of the Prudential Insurance Company in Margaretville.
She and her husband, Ralph operated a dairy farm in Roxbury prior to moving to Margaretville in 1962.
Julia enjoyed traveling, family vacations and family gatherings.
Julia is survived by her son, David Cantwell, Walton; daughter, Mary Ellen Cantwell, Margaretville; sister, Rose Smith, Margaretville; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; sisters, Ethel Kelly,
Isabel Mason, Margaret Olmstead Carroll and Anne Connelly.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell as celebrant.
Committal prayers will be Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, in the Roxbury Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations in memory of Julia M. Cantwell may be made to the Margaretville Memorial Hospital.
