Julia Quillen Obituary

Published by Delaware State News on Apr. 28, 2011.
MILFORD - Julia A. Quillen, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, surrounded by her loving family whom she cherished. She was 71. Mrs. Quillen was a homemaker. In her younger days, she belonged to a women's softball team, as a pitcher, and travelled all over the East Coast, and even Bermuda. Needless to say, her love for sports was evident throughout her entire life. She enjoyed camping with her family, especially in Florida, and loved to go to yard sales. Along with her husband, she enjoyed being a part of the Southern Delaware Street Rod Association, and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, John E. and Mary Porter Sr., she was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Quillen; and a brother, John E. Porter Jr. Survivors include loving husband of 52 years, Jimmie G. Quillen of Milford; son, Gordon L. Quillen and wife Terri of Milford; daughter, Trenda A. Fitzhugh and husband James of Milford; brothers, James Porter of Milton, and Norman Porter of Harrington; sisters, Doris Greenlee of Milford, and Joyce Shockley of Harrington; five grandchildren, Gordon Jr., Heather, Brittany, Summer, James; and two great-grandchildren, Brenden, and Gage. Services will be 6 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2011, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Hospice Center Milford, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, visit our website at www.melvinfuneralhome.com for further information, leave a letter of condolence, or to send flowers.

Jimmie & Family,

Sorry for your loss. I played softball with Julia. She was our "Mom" of the team. Kept all us whippersnappers in line. Fine memories of a kind woman. God Bless!

Our deepest condolences goes to all the survivors (family and Friends), for it is the time when we need to stay close to one another and when God will stand by you. Such a good Mother, Grandmother and friend. So very kind, so very sweet. We have enjoyed the privelege of getting to spend time with such a sweet soul! Fill your hearts with love and all the special memories to help ease the sorrow. Each day you were blessed to have spent the time with one of GOD'S undercover ANGELS. Sending LOVE to all
