Julia Reagan Huckaby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 13 to Jan. 17, 2024.
Knoxville - Julia Reagan Huckaby, 73, was born September 22, 1950 in Savannah, Georgia and died January 11, 2024 peacefully at home with her husband of 50 years, Rod, at her side reading Scriptures.

Judy, the middle child of Creed & Margaret Reagan, graduated from The Savannah Country Day School. She matriculated at Armstrong State University and received her Masters degree in Counseling from the University of Tennessee where she met and eventually married Rod Huckaby while both were leaders with Young Life. Judy continued her role as a guidance counselor in Atlanta and then in Savannah where their three sons were born. She and Rod served on church staff in Charlotte (Christ Covenant) and in Knoxville (Cedar Springs Presbyterian).

Judy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She led counseling groups, was a teacher, mentor, author, illustrator, artist and gardener. She formed meaningful friendships with many while she served in these capacities. She and Rod also enjoyed using their talents and home to extend hospitality to many. One way they both expressed love to their grandchildren was to host "Camp Gran and Grizz" - teaching art, crafts, skills, games and life lessons. Judy was a grateful person, despite her cancer and lung disease journey. She understood how gratitude transforms - even in difficult circumstances.

Judy was preceded by her older brother, Creed Reagan III (Chip), and her parents, Margaret Webb Reagan and Creed Reagan. She is survived by her husband, Rod Huckaby, their sons Rodney (Huck) Huckaby (Laura) of Charlotte, Creed Huckaby (Dani) of Knoxville, and Thomas Huckaby (Megan) of Atlanta and five grandchildren - Wilson, Hollis, Reagan, Ada, and Charlotte, with a sixth grandchild due soon. She is also survived by her brother Bobby Reagan (Beth) of Atlanta.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Judy at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 20th at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, 9132 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed (www.cspc.net/live).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Church of the Redeemer (Churchotr.com ; 318 Home Ave, Maryville, TN 37801) ; Young Life of Alcoa, TN (P.O.Box 5284, Maryville, TN 37804); or "All Are Worthy" (allareworthy.com ; 1537 Dalton St, Alcoa, TN 37701) Online condolences may be expressed at www.rosefuneraltn.com

Deepest sympathy and love to the Huckaby and Reagan families.I pray that God will comfort you all in the loss of beloved Judy.

I was blessed by a friendship with Judy that spanned 68 years, a sister in Christ for 54 years. She blessed all who knew her by her remarkable capacity for love; she listened with both her heart and mind and responded with compassion and wisdom. Direct, even blunt, funny and fun, never shrinking, always courageous. Precious and rare. I thank God for her life and “look forward to the life of the world to come”.
