Julie was a true friend and I still miss her a lot.
August 18, 2016
At the beginning of each school year, I copy a note of remembrance into my grade book about Julianna. I did not know her, but I was crushed that a great teacher was lost. After 8 years, I still feel this loss very personally and rededicate what I do this year to her memory. Roberta Whitman - Hopkins, MN.

I went searching for an old friend and my heart is so sad to have found this. Julie and I served in the Army together, we went to Bosnia together, we were roommates, we were friends. i met my husband for the first time with julie. We rang in the new millenium together. The art that she hand made us as a wedding present in 2000 still hangs on my living room wall. So many beautiful memories we have of those times. Julie was truly a beautiful person, who will forever have a place in my life and my heart.

My heart goes out to the Gehant family and every life that Julie ever touched!! We went to Jr. High and High School together. Going through some old yearbooks I found a few polaroids from a Jr. High Dance and Julie was in the group.
Although I haven't seen Julie since high school, I will never forget when I saw her name appear on the TV. I kept thinking, no, not her! She was also a very nice person that had a wonderful smile and a laugh that could warm anyone's heart and bring sunshine to their day.
She has achieved so many accomplishments in such a short time! After reading several articles about her, I admire her for everything she has done and the many people's lives she has touched!

I went to basic training w/ Gehant in 1994.
She was so sweet and so chipper. She had a squeaky little voice and I can still hear her saying her social security number in the chow line.
I was so happy when I found her on myspace in early February. I was excited at the chance to reconnect. She never accepted my friend request, I don’t know if she didn’t see it or didn’t know who I was. My friends from Basic Training shared this with me and we are all very sad.
My deepest Sympathies,
Lori

Dear Deb and Ed, It is a horrible thing that has happend to Julie. She has been through so much in her life. She was finally finding her way again. I think back to the long conversations I had with her after loosing Steve and then her Grandma and I know that she would want everyone to take comfort in the wonderfull memories she left with us. She was an amazing woman. I will miss her and I want to thank her for the memories that we will cherish forever. Love Kathy(Shambaugh)Christensen.

SSG Gehant was one of my Soldiers a short while ago. She worked for me and earned a place in my heart as a truly compassionate and caring leader and trusted friend. She was great with kids and loved teaching others and as I mentored her over the years I knew her one passion was to teach kids and be a mom and have a normal life. What a waste to have her leave us this way without fullfilling her destiny. I know that she is up in heaven now teaching the angels and smiling with that beautiful smile that she always had on her face and just loving being nice and helpful regardless of the situation. She will be missed by all she was one of the good ones a true friend and a great Soldier. Very Respectfully

I met Julianna in the Veteran's Club on campus and it was an honor to have known her and call her a friend. Even though we only first met a mere 6 months ago her spirit is one that will never be forgotten. She was so strong then and I only hope that her family has as much strength through these hard times. My condolences go out to them. GOD BLESS.

I met Julie through her cousin, Michelle. I didn't get to know her as well as I wish, now, I would have. The few times I did get to meet up with her, I only recall laughter. She was hilarious, and I have to say...this past 4th of July was the best one I've ever had...thanks to Michelle, Sarah, and Julie. I am recalling, now, a great 20 min conversation I had with her about her time in the military, while everyone else was out in the water. She really, really cracked me up. I am very sorry for this loss. And Michelle, I'm giving you a hug through this, and feeling for you. May Julie Rest In Peace...

Julie was my cousin. Her and I became close friends after the loss of her fiancee. Not only was she a cousin to me she was like a sister I never had. We always had good times goin out dancing or causing some kind of trouble that we would laugh about the next day. She would stay over my house many a weekend and I can't tell you how much I will miss her presence and our talks and our stupid times of laughter....Not only is it a tragic loss to our family it's a tragic loss to the world; she had a lot of love to give...it breaks my heart that we won't have the chance to be old ladies together retelling our grandchildren of our wild times...I love her dearly and miss her ever so much....

Such a dear friend, the best of to my cousin Jody. As far back as 4 years old I have had the pleasure of knowing Julie personally. She was like an aunt to my daughter (chantelle) and very much and aunt to my cousins Amelia and Devin and lil' Jasen. You will always be remembered by lots. I will never forget all the great times we shared throughout our young lives with her. Its such a shock that a great person like her has been taken away in such a terrible way. I will remember always the times at six flags and taking the girls to see (Dan) from forrest gump and the silly cotton candy hats that you wore with the girls. what great times we will miss now that you are up in heaven looking down and watchin all of us. We all miss you Miss Julie and what great memories you blessed us with. I promise to help out with the strength and love that you gave Jody and the rest of the family. Always in our hearts Dear friend.

To Julianna’s family, friends, loved ones & community:
Words cannot express the loss of a loved one. She did not deserve to have her life cut short, especially this way after serving her country. There is no doubt in my mind that she will always be remembered. I hope her next life brings her the long life she was denied in this one.
I know nothing I can say will ease you pain or that no one can understand the agony & depth of your loss. I hope you can find some peace for yourselves when you're ready, knowing a part of her will always be with you & your memories of her.
