Julianne McClure Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 23, 2025.
Julianne McClure (née Canty) died unexpectedly on June 18, 2025 from injuries sustained in a car accident on June 15th. Her family is devastated and deeply saddened by this tragic loss.

Julie was born on January 5, 1948 to William and Dorothe Canty in Ridgway, Pennsylvania where she spent much of her childhood before moving to Berkley, Michigan as a teenager. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Flint, Michigan in 1969 and married Joseph McClure on November 22, 1969. Julie and Joe were the perfect match in every way, sharing over 55 years of love, laughter, and partnership.

Together, they built a beautiful family beginning with their four children: Karen (Tim) Wilcox, Stephen (Colleen) McClure, Marianne (Roger) Krzeminski, and Jennifer (Paul) Mikulski. That family grew to include Nonnie's eleven beloved grandchildren: Claire, Jack and Meredith Wilcox; Madeline, Paul, Bethany and William McClure; Camden and Jase Krzeminski; and Kate Ellen and David Mikulski.

Julie is also survived by her siblings Gary (Sherry) Canty, Darlene (Joseph) Ditrapani, and Laurie (Donald) Johnson; her aunt Carole Traut; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Timothy.

Julie's nursing career spanned more than 51 years and touched thousands of lives through her care, compassion, and deep respect for the medical field. She began her career at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak as a graduate nurse in the ICU, later moving to Intercommunity Hospital in Newfane, NY where she worked in the operating room. Julie paused her career to care for her growing family, including a 4-year relocation to Spain, before returning to Michigan. There, she joined Troy Beaumont Hospital, serving in the Pre-Op and Recovery Unit for 13 years, followed by many impactful years with Beaumont Home Health Services, where she continued to serve patients and families until her retirement in 2020.

Julie was a vibrant, caring woman whose spirit and smile lit up every room. She lived her life in service to others, always looking for ways to help whether it was by leading the high school all-night party, launching a parish nurse program, leading the Troy Foundation for Educational Excellence, founding the Troy chapter of 100 Women Who Care, or simply being a tremendous wealth of knowledge and support for family and friends. Julie was a deeply faithful woman and exuded that faith in every interaction. As family friend Rik Cryderman so perfectly shared, "Her vibrant and visible faith leaves a clear forwarding address to Heaven, where she's already volunteered for a host of jobs."

Everyone who knew Julie is deeply impacted by her loss, but her family finds comfort in her final words. "It's going to be okay..."

A Funeral Mass for Julie will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Rochester Hills, MI. The family will receive visitors prior to Mass beginning at 10:00 AM. The Funeral Mass will also be live streamed; please visit www.smoth.org/livemass to access the St. Mary of the Hills Events YouTube Channel link.

Joe and Family,

I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

I met Julie when we moved to the neighborhood and played many years with her at Bunco and LCR. We had such a wonderful neighborhood get-together monthly.

My prayers are with all of you. I am so sorry.

I sure wish I'd have had the chance to meet this wonderful lady. Her legacy is embodied in Jen, whom I've come to know over the last few years. Jennifer, my sincerest sympathies to you and your family. Based on her obit and the tales from the friends in these messages, your mom lives on, and has left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Let's grab a drink in her honor soon.

I first met July in the 90´s while working at Beaumont homecare, I quickly learned what an asset she was to the profession, always trying to help patients, staff, & the community.
Julie always made time to make things better for everyone. The profession lost a caring, loving nurse who gave so much of herself & would always find time to support those in need no matter how busy she was.
My love and support goes to the family.

I remember visiting Joe and Julie in Spain. The four of us traveled for 3 weeks and had a blast. At one point Pete and I wanted to go shopping and Julie suggested we take Karen with us so we would not get lost> Kare was the only one who spoke Spanish and was about 5 or 6 at the time>. Pete and I will keep Julie in our hearts through all of our funny memories>

I went to Ridgway (PA) high school in the `60s with Julie before she moved away. I´ve not seen her in many decades, but immediately remembered her when I heard this sad news. High school can be tough, but I think I was helped by Julie´s kind, positive attitude long ago. What a fabulous life she led! Rest in Peace, Julie. From "Margie".

Russ and I are so sorry to hear of the passing of your amazing mother and devoted wife. We shared many happy times and just a few sad ones when we were together in Spain. Returning for home leave one year with 6 kids in tow, we navigated the airports and a very long flight together. When the New York plane was full, they were offering $1,000 for us to give up our seats. Your mom and I looked at each other and just for an instant we thought about it..........however, we all wanted to get home to Michigan to see the rest of our family and friends who were there waiting for all of us. We did have happy times together. Julie will be missed by many and our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. Fondly, Russ and Linda McLean
