Jun Komatsu Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2025.
Jun Komatsu passed away on February 19, 2025. He was born on June 20, 1954 (Father's Day), in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kiyoshi and Fumie (Iwasaki) Komatsu. He was the youngest of 4 children.

He married Leslie Bennett on July 30, 1977, and together they had two children, Ben and Megan. Jun and Leslie eventually divorced.

In October of 2007 Jun decided to ask Amy, who was the Office Manager at Davis Vision, to lunch. Their deep love for each other was immediate. Jun and Amy were married on August 2, 2008. Their marriage brought their families together as one loving and joyful family: Melanie & Mike, Ben, Megan, Mariah, Seth, Miriam, and Hannah.

Jun attended West High School and later pursued his education at The University of Utah. He built a successful career in the eye care industry, dedicating over 40 years to his work. An avid skier, Jun proudly served on the Park City Ski Patrol Team. His passion for speed extended to the racetrack, where he enjoyed racing his Porsche 944 Turbo S. Jun also had a deep love for the outdoors, spending cherished time camping and boating with his family at Lake Powell.

Jun took his time growing his testimony and was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints on June 1, 2024. His love for the Gospel was strong. He was looking forward to being sealed to Amy.

Jun had a deep love for his family and friends. He was his children's and grandchildren's biggest cheerleader, always cheering them on with pride. Known for his generosity, Jun had a warm heart and never met a stranger.

Jun was preceded in death by his parents and sister Reiko (Norman).

Jun is survived by his loving wife, Amy, and his three children: Melanie (Mike), Ben (Isabelle), and Megan (Gabriel). He leaves behind six grandchildren-Mariah, Seth (Sara), Miriam, Hannah, Oakley, and Beckett-and four great-grandchildren: Lorelai, Rhett, Ezra, and Isla. Jun is also survived by his siblings, Judy and Seiji (Ruby), numerous in-laws and cousins, and his beloved fur babies, Bob and Stubby.

Our family would like to extend our thanks to the team at Intermountain Medical Center for the care and comfort they provided while Dad passed.

Services will be held on March 1, 2025, at the Church located at 1478 East 8600 South in Sandy, Utah. Visiting hours will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.

So sorry to hear the news! I knew Jun in grade school. And miraculously kept bumping into each other on several occasions. We would catch up on our lives and talk and remembered the fun times we had as little kids! Playing behind the Buddhist church or seeing the samurai movies down in the basement. Eating at the Pagota Restaurant and playing 4 square at school. (Who remembers that game) Reading his conversion doesn´t surprise me at all. He always wax kind hearted, loving and unselfish to me and the friends we grew up together with! Will miss him! Our Prayers are with his family!

Jun was a great mentor, and friend we are all deeply saddened to hear of the news.
A valuable asset to the eye care community, and will be missed by all.
He'd always have a joke, or some ribbing comment, in which you'd have to come up with a better comment back, at which he'd laugh it off and and playful banter would ensue.
He was always a great guy to see, and get to talk to, he'd always ask about family, and your well being, trade experience with, and we will miss him.

Darn. He was too young! We went to high school together and he was one of my best friends. We would drive around in his Corvette and listen to Chicago´s, "Saturday in the Park." Every time I hear that song I think of Jun. I haven´t seen him in years and I should have reached out. I think it´s a good lesson to all of us to contact someone that we think about before it is too late. It doesn´t matter how much time has passed. My condolences to Jun´s family. He was a great guy.

We are so shocked by Jun's death. He was a wonderful , kind and loving neighbor. He would always be there to do the snow removal on our driveway no matter how deep or wet the snow was. The last time I saw him was about a week or so ago. He was doing this for us when we had had just a dusting of snow on the driveway. He was out there with his leaf blower blowing the little skiff of snow off the driveway. I am so sorry I didn't go out and give him a hug for all the times he had helped us! He and Amy have been wonderful Neighbors to us for years! We will miss him so very much. Sending our Love and Hugs to all his family. We will be grieving along with you. Sandra and Ed Olsen

Jun was a very friendly neighbor and Neighborhood Watch leader with Amy. When we had neighborhood watch meetings in his circle, he was the first to make sure things were set up, that we had water, that everybody was greeted with a warm welcome.
