Justin Shapiro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 14, 2024.
Beloved grandson, son("the finest son any father could aspire to have")and father of Penelope Annella, during his marriage to Ashley Shapiro, nee Rothman, Justin Philip-Vincent Shapiro passed away peacefully on May 30, 2024, at age 43, one day shy of his 44th birthday. He was born on May 31, 1980, to Jerrold and Annella Shapiro at the Prentice Maternity Center in Chicago and resided his entire life on the Near North side of downtown Chicago. Possessed of an always curious and sharp intellect, and a wry, ironic sense of humor, he graduated from the Latin School of Chicago in 1998 where he founded the Investment Club and starred on the baseball team. In 2002 he graduated from Pitzer College, a member of the Claremont consortium of colleges located in Claremont, California, with a major in economics. And he then entered the world of finance as a treasury bond trader at Trans Market Group, LLC. During that time he also attained his MBA degree from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business in 2011 with a concentration in finance. As an aside and testimony to his always inquisitive, tenacious intellect, he taught himself computer code while always watching his beloved Chicago Bulls in his leisure time. In the last few years, he was employed as a finance executive for an up and coming corporate startup assembling, constructing, and packaging portfolios of single family homes for rental. When he wasn't diligently and conscientiously working on this project, he was a dedicated family man and devoted father to his baby daughter, and a loyal, committed and always a "great, good friend" to his broad network of lifetime friends, entitled the Stalwarts, who returned that affection in kind, and were the distinguished everpresent support group who reciprocated that loyalty and kindness exponentially during his illness. Mr. Shapiro was interred with his paternal grandparents at Westlawn Cemetery & Mausoleum on June 3rd with assistance provided by Chicago Jewish Funerals. It has been one year since our beloved Justin left us, and not a day has passed without his memory lighting up our hearts. The ache of his absence continues, but it has deepened our appreciation for the joy and love Justin brought into our lives. A quiet strength, a beautiful spirit was taken too soon, but the love he gave us lives on.
Be at peace dear Justin.
With love Aunt Peggy and Uncle Doug

I am a first cousin of Justin's father. I did not have the pleasure to meet or know this fine young man. I cannot express fully how heartbroken a father must be to have their child pass before them. I truly loved and adored Justin's mom. I trust that their spirits have been united. To my dear cousin Jerry, be well. I wish for you peace and healing.

I have deliberately waited a while to express the great loss Justin's family and friends have experienced. My beloved nephew, Justin, had such an impact on so many people's lives it is impossible to describe.
I know his mother, Annella and father, Jerrold were extremely proud of their son. Being around them as I was during his formative years, I was able to witness all the love they had for one another.
When Justin became an adult, the many people he "hung out" with, all felt the same way. Great love was shown by them even in death. His intellect and warmth was spread throughout his friends and his family. His toughness during the toughest of treatments was echoed only by the extreme determination exhibited by his father. These tremendous qualities will most assuredly be passed on to his loving daughter.
Justin will not be forgotten. His memory will only be enriched by those stories told in the future. RIP

Our beloved Justin will be missed by so many. We will always cherish the many years of memories, and the fun times we had together throughout your lifetime. Your courageous fight and struggle against your challenging diagnosis taught us all that determination and strength can inspire those around you to push harder. You will always be in our hearts, forever! Be at peace now Justin with your mom, Annella and sweet Ellie. Love Aunt Peggy and Uncle Doug
