I don't know if these notes still reach Lauren but just in case. Lauren, your mom and I were fast friends in Boston. Today I was sewing and thought of her and went searching to reconnect. I was devastated to learn this sad news. I am so very sad that we lost touch. I wanted to send you a note and tell you what a unique and marvelous person she was. And how dear to me. I hope you are well. Nancy Lutz

Lauren, I am very saddened by the loss of your dear mother. I met Karen when we were in the doctoral program together at Boston College. She was such a bright, energetic, capable and accomplished person. She's had a remarkable research career, which has enhanced the lives of so many - patients and care providers alike. She was very kind to me and invited me to your home in Cambridge for Easter dinners. I have not been in touch with Karen in recent years, but I still feel the deep loss of her unexpected passing. My prayers go out to you and your daughter and I pray her wonderful spirit is felt in both of you.

My heart is heavy with the sudden loss of Karen. She was my radiation oncology sister and sweet friend. Her stellar career made a real difference to patients, families, colleagues and students. I will always remember Karen's kindness, elegance and forever youthful glow.
Lauren and family you are in my prayers.
