Karl Schmid

December 26, 1933 - October 3, 2023

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Karl passed away on October 3, 2023 at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Karen; daughters Linda, Elizabeth, and Katherine; sons-in-law Daniel, Todd, and Eric; grandchildren Danielle, Jack, Nicole, Alexandra, Taylor, Josh, Natalie, and Rylee; and his brother, Eugene Schmid.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Karl moved to California with his family as a young boy. He served in the Army and was stationed in Japan for three years. He later moved to San Francisco, where he met Karen, his wife, and eventually settled with his family in Foster City, California.

Karl enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and golf. He was an avid 49'ers fan and was a season ticket holder for over 40 years. Above all else, he loved his family.

Karl always enjoyed a good party, so we are having a Celebration of Life in his honor at the Elks Lodge in San Mateo, California. It will be held on October 27, 2023 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Saint Jude Children's Hospital: https://www.stjude.org/.

Karl was so special to our family. As neighbors our family blended very well.

We just want to reach out and send our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers, to Karen, the Girl´s, and your entire family, upon hearing the news about Karl. He was such an endearing and wonderful Man, who was not only big in stature, but BIG in Life. He was such an incredible Role Model in every way. For me personally, I was honored and grateful to know him as a child on up. Karl exemplified the balance of love, fun, and life. He showed this love, fun, and life to his family, his friends, and to everyone he encountered. Later in life when he was more bound to his wheelchair; Karl would still greet me at the San Mateo Elks Lodge with his same big smile and personality, and say; Hi ya Jimmy, how are you doing! How´s your family? This is how Karl greeted me from when I was a young teenager, and throughout the year´s I´d see him at the Elks Club! I know our Dad always loved seeing Karl there too! Karl´s spirit and legacy will live on forever! We are forever grateful and blessed to have known Karl, Karen, and their family, beginning with all the incredible summers we had down in Twin Creeks, to the many occasions throughout the years at the Elks Club; along with family gathering events that brought one or both of them together. WE just want to say Thank You Karl in every way, and I´m sure the Twin Creeks Family up in Heaven have already handed you your Gin Fizz, and the party is just beginning. We know you´re in Good Hands, Good Friend; and thanks for the Memories!

God Bless,

The REARDON´s
(Jim, Linda, Mary, Michael)

I don´t have a specific memory of Karl, rather a collage of memories from the years of knowing him and the family at Twin Creeks. I remember numerous summers of him swimming and playing dominoes or pedro at the pool. I remember him playing lots of tennis on Saturdays when the dads came down the peninsula from their jobs, him and the alley dads at cocktail hour and barbecuing chicken or steaks. I remember Karl being a very regal and he had a sophistication about him, a good role model.

Of him working on his crossword puzzles and trying to figure them out with him and being amazed at how smart he was!

My love and condolences to Karen, Linda, Elizabeth and Kathy and their families. I am so sad. Karl was a loved friend for many many years. He was best man at our wedding. I have so many memories of when we were all young and living in San Francisco. It was a wonderful time.
