Katherine Doherty

Katherine Doherty, 78, of Valley Cottage, died Sept. 8, 2012, while surrounded by her family.

She was born May 9, 1934, in the Bronx to parents Thomas and Margaret McCormack . She married John Joseph Doherty on Sept. 10, 1960, and together they had six children.

Doherty was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, John, in 1977.

Survivors include three daughters, Maureen and her husband, Steven Darragh, of Valley Cottage, Katherine of White Plains and Peggy (Margaret) of Suffern; three sons, John and his wife, Carolyn, of Pearl River, Daniel and his wife, Natalie, of Poughkeepsie, and Thomas of Nyack; seven grandchildren, John, Caitlyn, Brian, Katie, Jillian, Emily and Maggie; two brothers, Thomas and John McCormack ; a sister, Margaret; and five nephews, John, Michael, Thomas, James and Brian McCormack .

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Hannemann Funeral Home Inc. at 88 S. Broadway in Nyack. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Nyack. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
