Katherine KELLAND Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Sep. 9 to Sep. 10, 2016.

KELLAND, Katherine Mary
December 24, 1918 - August 8, 2016

Born in Vancouver, BC, youngest daughter of Frederick Samuel McKay and Ethel Churchill McKay. Educated at King Edward High School, UBC (BA 1941), and U of T (BLSc 1943). Married 1943, she moved to Ottawa for her husband's work with the NAE-NRC and raised their family there. Predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years Herbert Harold Kelland in 2011 and her older sister Margaret Logan (McKay) Bryant. She returned to Vancouver in 2012 to be closer to her family. Survived by her three children Chris (Betsy), Diana, and Syd (Maureen); six grandchildren Ron, James (Belinda), David, Mark (Courtney), Christine (Brent Langill), and Kevin; four great-grandchildren Matteah (Jonathan Bursey), Aidan, Anika and Arson; and great-niece and nephew Kelly Nasmyth and Bryant Boyd. She is fondly remembered by family and friends for her generous spirit, sense of fun, quick wit, ready smiles and sparkling blue eyes. She loved books, antiquing, Canadiana, genealogy, fabric arts ("famous weaver"), gardening, and young people (Girl Guide leader), but not cooking! How fortunate we all are for her long and happy life. A heartfelt thank you from the family to the professional and caring staff of Sunrise of Vancouver and to her previous caregiver in Ottawa, Lucie Chidiak. There will be a private family service in October with interment at Mountainview Cemetery. Friends and family may consider a donation to a charity supportive of young people or The Nature Conservancy of Canada.
