Katherine Shevelson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2014.
Katherine Claudia Jacques Shevelson passed away peacefully on September 5, 2014 at the age of 96. Kathy was married to Joseph Shevelson for 62 years before his death in 2004. Kathy and Joe raised their 3 children in Oak Park, Illinois, moved to Oak Brook, Illinois and then Sarasota, Florida. Kathy is survived by her children, Courtney Shevelson, (Corliss) Carmel, California, Nina Allen, (Michael) River Forest, Illinois, Katherine (Pinny) Brouder, Sarasota, Florida. Kathy is also survived by her grandchildren, Brad Neuhoff, (Rebecca) Portland, Oregon, Matt Neuhoff, (Marsha) Winston Salem, North Carolina, Geoff Neuhoff, (Shelli ) St. Petersburg, Florida, Craig Neuhoff, Woodstock, Georgia, Megan Pimsner, (Ashley) Campton Hills, Illinois, Joshua Sullivan, (Blanca) Montgomery, Illinois, Kevin Allen, (Janet) Savannah, Georgia, Joey Shevelson, (Carrie) Seattle, Washington. Additionally, her legacy continues to live on with 17 great grandchildren.
Kathy was always told she was a sickly child and often chuckled over her longevity. She was extremely accomplished in so many ways. Kathy was an amazing cook that could make even the pickiest among us eat leftovers. She always had a needlework project in the works; her greatest being a representation of all the Chicago landmarks. She handmade quilts for great grandchildren when they were born and many homes are graced by her quilts, wall hangings, and needlepoint projects. It was her goal every year to give each child something handmade with love. As her niece Mary Lou remembers, Kathy always spoke her mind well before women were comfortable doing so, and her family loved her for it. We respected that she had opinions and wasn't afraid to say what they were, a trait not necessarily common for women of her generation. She lived a blessed life and will be missed by all.
