Kathleen Yancey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2009.
Kathleen (Kay) Yancey, 86, of Pasadena, Texas, with her two loving children at her side, was released from the debilitating dementia of the last five years into the loving arms of her precious Lord and Savior July 11, 2009. A celebration of Kathleen's life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Fairmont Funeral Home Chapel, Fairmont Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 6777 Fairmont Pkwy in Pasadena. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Pastor Jon Redmond will be officiating. Kay was born Sept. 25, 1922, in Nuneaton, County of Warwick, England, to James and Annie E. Moten. She served as a Drill Sergeant in the British Army during World War II. Kay retired, after approximately 25 years, from First Baptist Church of Pasadena, as a data entry clerk. Her passion was her family, sports, and being of Christian service through her beloved First Baptist Church of Pasadena. Her love and devotion to her family and to her Lord forever will be her testimony. Even in the depths of her dementia, she was a Christian witness to the aides and nurses by leading them in prayer in the evenings. She loved the Lord above all else in life! Kay is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie Yancey; and her sisters, Pat Burnett, Lee MacDonald, and Jean Friesleben, her soul mate all of her life and in her mind and spirit even in her last days. She is survived by her daughter, Gaynor Yancey; and son, Rodney Yancey; granddaughters, Brandi and husband, David Hitchcock, and Myste Kennedy; great-grandchild, Cody Hitchcock; our sister and Aunt in Christ, Grady Cox; and numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, and friends. Gaynor and Rodney wish to thank all of the aides, nurses and other staff at Wesley Woods Care Center for their loving care of "Mrs. Yancey" throughout these past five years. They also wish to thank the aides, nurses, social workers, and chaplains of Providence Hospice for their care last year and Hillcrest Home Health and Community Hospice for their good care of their mother in her last days. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions may be made to the Kathleen and Eddie Yancey Endowed Scholarship Fund--Social Work at Baylor University, One Bear Place #97050, Waco, TX 76798.
