Kathryn Shapiro Obituary
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery with Larry D. Lachman, chaplain/gabbai, officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.
Kathryn was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Fort Worth to Teddy and Libby Spector. She moved to Amarillo at a young age and graduated from Amarillo High School. While in Amarillo, Kathryn met the love of her life, Ted Shapiro. They were married June 25, 1944. Ted and Kathryn had three children, Lynda, Nathan and Renee. Kathryn was very social and acted in the Amarillo Little Theatre. Her father was a founding member of Temple B'nai Israel in Amarillo. Kathryn was very involved in the Jewish community. She enjoyed playing bridge, mahjong and poker. She loved slot machines and cooking. Most of all, she loved her family. Family always came first, no matter what.
Survivors include her husband, Ted Shapiro; son, Nathan; and a grandson, Charles.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and her daughters, Lynda and Renee.
The family suggests memorials be to American Friends of Tel Aviv University, 9011 W. Pico Blvd., Suite 1240, Los Angeles, CA 90035, in memory of Kathryn Shapiro designated to research on the genetic disease, Familial Dysautonomia.
The family will receive guests from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kathryn made the world a better place just by being in it. She was an amazing, loving, truly wonderful woman with a great sense of humor. She was just like a grandmother to me, and I will always treasure the many memories I have of her and Ted. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
