Kathryn Louise Skerpon

Kate Skerpon, 92, of Sayre, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at her home. Born January 11, 1923 in Sayre, she was a daughter of the late Umberto and Maria Quattrini. Kate was a graduate of the Sayre Area High School class of 1940.

In early years she first worked at the Newberry's store in downtown Sayre and then at the Eclipse in Elmira during World War II. Following employment at the Blue Swan in Sayre, she went to work at Label Processing System (later named Paxar) starting in 1970 until her retirement in 1984 at the age of 62.

On April 24, 1948, she married John Skerpon at the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre with Father John Gough presiding. She was a member of the Church of the Epiphany and Kate enjoyed walking, knitting and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. "Grandma's toasted cheese" for Fridays at lunch was always a special time. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren running; playing lacrosse, football, baseball, soccer, and basketball; and playing musical instruments. Kate had a special place in her heart for family and friends and was known for sending cards on all occasions.

She is survived by her children Melvin Skerpon (Terry) of Davidson, N.C., Joseph Skerpon (Lynn Loughlin) of Mitchellville, Md., Barbara Natoli (John) of Sayre, Pa., and Donnie Skerpon (Robbin) of Sayre, Pa.; grandchildren, Jay Natoli (Kate), Timothy Loughlin Skerpon (Mela), Brian Natoli (Nikki), Mark Natoli, Patrick Loughlin Skerpon (Katie), Kevin Loughlin Skerpon (Mina), Luke Skerpon (Fiancée Brandi), Taylor Skerpon, Elyse Skerpon and Katie Skerpon; great-grandsons Daniel and Michael Skerpon; and she was expecting her first great-granddaughter (Tessa) in July 2015.

She was predeceased by her husband John; sisters Louise Camillo and Alice Watkins; brothers Gene Pace, Dominic Pace and Donald Pace.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home at 314 Desmond Street, Sayre, Pa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 22 at the Church of the Epiphany, S. Elmer Ave., Sayre. Interment will be in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Athens, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Guthrie Hospice, RR1 Box 154, Towanda, PA 18848 in Kathryn Skerpon's memory.
