Kathy Alberque Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 9, 2025.
In loving memory of Kathleen Davitt Alberque, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, we celebrate the life of this inspirational woman who embodied strength, resilience, and unconditional love. Her ability to forge a unique and special bond with each individual in her life will be an enduring inspiration of the extraordinary power of true personal connection.

In the truest sense, she dedicated her life to her family. Together with her husband of 59 years, she overcame personal adversity to build a loving home and strong family. Her willingness to take on any challenge, from restoring a 100+ year old home and building a small family farm to pursuing advanced degrees, was a testament to her determination, her resourcefulness, her time-tested capability, and her desire never to stop learning.

She is survived by her devoted husband, James Alberque of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, her children Kathleen and Mark Shea of Brush Creek, Tennessee, Lisa and Brian Fleming of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and James and Kari Alberque of Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as her eight grandchildren, Heather Starky, Andrew Shea, Grace, Jack and Kate Fleming, Luke, Ryan, and Erin Alberque, and her great-granddaughter Emellee Starky.

Kathleen Davitt Alberque, 81, died peacefully at her home in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family on August 6, 2025. Born on March 12, 1944, in Binghamton, New York, to Genevieve Sheeran Davitt and James Davitt, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Saint Bonaventure University, as well as a Master's degree in History from Worcester State University. Throughout her life, she worked for AT&T, the University of Cincinnati, the US Census Bureau, and Educational Testing Services. Still, she primarily dedicated her life to her husband of 59 years, raising her three children, and creating adventures and lasting memories with her 8 grandchildren. She was also a longtime dedicated member of the PEO in Worcester, Massachusetts.
