Kathy Dixon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 24, 2025.
Kathy J. Dixon was born on August 25, 1961, in Longview, Washington. She grew up in Longview and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1979. Her love for animals led her to pursue a degree in veterinary technology at Pierce College in Tacoma, Washington.

Kathy worked at Cowlitz Animal Clinic in Longview for several years before transitioning to other areas of healthcare. She had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at Long Beach, salmon fishing, digging razor clams, and feeding the seagulls. A devoted Mariners fan, she loved attending games and cheering for her favorite player, Edgar Martinez.

In her spare time, Kathy found joy in quilting and once entered a "sudoku quilt" in the Cowlitz County Fair. She will always be remembered for her tender heart and compassion for animals of all kinds-she adored dogs and cats but had a special fondness for elephants and even ladybugs. Her quirky sense of humor brought smiles to those around her, and "Twit" was one of her favorite terms of endearment.

On February 6, 2025, Kathy passed away in Vancouver, Washington, after a lengthy stay at Northwest Continuem as her health declined. Her family is grateful for the compassionate care she received and the kindness of the staff who looked after her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Shirley Dixon of Longview, and an infant brother, Melvin. She is survived by her sisters, Karen (Gary) Lindberg of Long Beach, Washington, and Cindy French of Ash Flat, Arkansas; while Kathy never had any children of her own she was adored by her niece, Misty (Robert) Harmon of Kennewick, Washington; nephews Travis Smith of Longview, Washington, and Andy (Misty) Smith of Christiansted, USVI; as well as great-nieces Rain Harmon and Kinsey Smith and great-nephews Xander, Isaiah, Christian, and Ezekiel Harmon.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please be kind to animals-perhaps consider adopting a rescue.

My dear sweet wonderful cousin~
The sayings "Life is too short" ans "Life isn't fair" were never more true. I will miss you Kathy with all my heart I will miss your smile, your laughter, your sense of humor.
I remember when we were kids you teaching me to color (to stay in the lines ~ um nope !!). Most of your coloring books back then had a theme with horses !! You loved horses and taught me to love and respect animals of all kinds. I was so proud of your going to college to be a vet. tech. ~ I wanted to follow in your footsteps.
I know you are laughing with Jesus and surrounded by a billion furbabies !! I love you~
