Kay Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2023.
Our graceful and strong Mom passed away at 67 years old after a hard-fought fight with ovarian cancer. No stone was left unturn in her battle to beat this disease and she did it with bravery and grace. Our hearts are shattered with her departure, but we find comfort knowing she is no longer suffering and imagine the reunion she is having with her mom Nadene Thorpe, dad Charles Thorpe, brother Karl, and nieces will be beautiful. She grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah with her 5 brothers and sisters (Kirk, Karl, Kathy, Keryl, Kris) and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1973 where she made lifelong friendships with Sara and Rachel. She married James G. Williams "JW" 9/28/1979 and together had two children Ashleah Pope (Jordan) and Parker who were her pride and joy (until her grandchildren dethroned them). She was very patient and settled for granddogs until Kash 2016, Charlie 2018, and Romey 2020, were born. Nothing brought a bigger smile to Mom's face than seeing her grandkids.

Mom spent her working years holding various titles for the Utah Department of Public Safety and was lucky enough to retire in 2005. She spent many of those years working (and playing) alongside her loyal sister Kathy. She enjoyed anything outdoors having spent lots of time on Lake Powell, snowmobiling, hiking, scuba diving, water and snow skiing, trap shooting, cheering on her Utah Utes, but she also had an artistic side. She enjoyed and was very good at painting with watercolors and sewing blankets, "ta-ta's" and her grandkids Halloween costumes.

In her last several years, Mom made St. George her permanent home and adapted quickly to the warmer weather. She tried to recruit those closest to her to join her and move down south and was thrilled when her sister Keryl did. They spent time together kayaking, hiking, shopping, solving the world's problems and stocking up on "Pandemic Creamer".

Mom, my heart is broken. I'm so grateful for the incredible relationship we had, but no doubt I will be lost without you. You taught me to be independent but appreciate the support of a good man (her favorite son-in-law Jordan). You taught me to think critically, pave my own trail, family forever, and always to have fun, be selfless and to appreciate the little things. You were my best friend, my North Star, my biggest supporter, and the greatest Mother. Send me those signs that you are close like you promised. ~Ashleah

Your beautiful spirit resonates bittersweetly in our hearts. Continue seeking high ground in the light of the Krishna conception of Divinity. We will carry on cherishing those deep conversations we had and the soul-charging hearty laughs. I feel that in this lifetime you and I made substantial steps forward in the soul's inner evolution back home, back to Godhead. The way you lived your life, setting an example of inexhaustible inner strength and grace, from beginning to end, deeply encourages us to go onward and upward too. We will certainly go on singing your glories and celebrating our sweet, serene and beautiful mom. ~ Parker

A celebration of life will be held for friends and family on September 24, in Sandy, Utah at the Flat Iron Park from 10am-12pm.

Thank you to those that visited, text, called, supported, fed us, and cared for our mom, especially during her recent trials.

Some of my earliest childhood memories include Kay, JW, Ashleah, and Parker. Disneyland, Powell, the cabin, snowmobiling, and just hanging out. JW was always a little crazy and Kay was always so sweet, caring, and loving.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Ashleah and Parker, losing my mom almost exactly three years ago, my heart is aching for you. It will never be easy, but the pain will get a little more manageable. Keep your memories and your family close.
Sending all my love, Lauri (Winkelman) Andrus
