Keith Hayden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 15, 2025.
Keith "Jim" Hayden Jr, 90, of Cape Coral, FL, passed away August 12, 2025 at Village Place Health and Rehab Center in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was born in 1935 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and grew up in southern California though lived in various states throughout his life. Shortly after graduating high school he enlisted in the US Army and served for two years, later attending UCLA.

His longtime career in managerial positions within the newspaper industry spanned across the country, beginning with the LA Times, then later to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Denver Post, Forbes Newspaper in NJ, and The Washington Times. After retirement he volunteered at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Maryland, where he received a Volunteer of the Month award, Cape Coral Hospital/Lee Health Center and the Pine Island Museum in Florida.

Keith and his wife Mary loved to travel and were fortunate enough to see many different corners of the world. He enjoyed good food and wine - though also a notorious lover of spam and hot sauce, as well as gardening, cigars, reading and sports, especially the Buffalo Bills. He was usually the center of good times, and his fantastic sense of humor could light up any room he walked into. Kind and generous, he always made time for others and could talk to anyone about anything.

Keith is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Raimondo), daughter Dana Iwanylo, son Scott Hayden, grandchildren Marissa (Brandon) Estep, Caleigh Iwanylo, Kelsey Iwanylo, Parker Iwanylo, Chase Hayden, great granddaughter Maggie Estep, sister Nancy Glueckert, parents-in-law Mary and Joe Raimondo, in-laws Joseph (Mercedes) Raimondo, Gina (Alex) HooFatt, Beth (Alan) Begane, many beloved nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

Keith was predeceased by his son Tim Hayden, parents Maye B. Hayden and Keith J. Hayden, brother Jack Hayden, and brother-in-law John Glueckert.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I love my grandfather so much. He was such an inspiration for me and I always loved visiting with him. He was the reason I so badly wanted to attend UCLA. I played on an All Star Softball team when I was 12 years old. Our team name was "Hot Shots" and ever since then that was the nickname he called me. It and he made me feel so special and I am so grateful to have had so much time with him. I recently just became a mother and am very grateful my daughter Maggie got to meet her great grandfather and that he got to meet her. I loved his smile and his laugh. Just talking on the phone with him made my day. I will miss him so much, but I will also celebrate all the times we shared.

Remembering my friend Jim Hayden. So funny and witty. I never had a dull day with him. When my first grandchild was born Jim and I would always share stories and pictures about our first grandchild. Mine was a boy and his was a girl. We laugh so hard about the stories. My son Shawn Hodge worked at The Washington Times also. He's a twin. I showed Jim a picture of Shawn and his twin brother from elementary school and they were dressed alike. So Jim said tell him the clothes he wore in this picture looks better than the ones he's wearing now. Shawn laughed so hard his jaw was hurting. Jim and I worked in the Advertising Department at The Washington Times for a long time. We always had each other's back. When he and Mary got married I was so thrilled and happy for both of them. She is the right one Jim, you are a real lucky man. After retirement we would email each other. A great man, a wonderful friend who I surely miss. God loves you Jim and so do I. Peace and blessings my friend.
