Obituary

Kelly Bruce Peterson, beloved father, brother, son, husband, and friend, passed away on June 26th 2025 after a brief illness, surrounded by family and free of pain or fear. He was 61.

Born January 27th, 1964 in Montpelier, Idaho, to Bruce and Bonnie Peterson, Kelly embraced life with enthusiasm. Together with his four siblings Cathi, Craig, Rob, and Christy, he involved himself in everything he could during his youth in New Mexico and Idaho Falls. Whether in sports, church service, or education, Kelly constantly sought to achieve, lead, and thrive.

Reaching adulthood, he served an honorable full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Japan, spending 18 months abroad. While there he formed lasting relationships and a lifelong fondness for Japanese culture.

Upon returning to the States, his education brought him to Brigham Young University, where he met and married his beloved wife Kristi. Their mortal marriage lasted 39 happy and eventful years, during which they acted as partners through all the twists and turns life brought, and through their promises they look forward to a reunion in the eternities. In their marriage they bore and raised four children: Oren, Nicole, Marshall and Matthew.

After achieving his Doctorate at the University of Washington, Kelly ran a successful private dental practice in Washington together with a hard working team, some of whom stayed on for decades. Those who knew him can recall his endless dedication to service, which manifested in all aspects of his life as he looked for opportunities to go above and beyond for his employees, clients, family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers.

His service carried him to volunteer extensively in all kinds of charitable organizations and projects, such as Marysville Rotary, Manos Para La Paz, the Snohomish High School Drama Department, and of course the LDS church. He completed over a dozen trips to Guatemala to help build over twenty schools and hundreds of lifespan-extending stoves for underprivileged communities, a legacy that he would be quick to humbly downplay.

Of course, the legacy most precious to Kelly was his family. Nothing had as great importance to him as the lives and success of his family, and the faith he sought to focus that family around. His children can give endless stories of Kelly prioritizing time and space for their interests, diving alongside them into fields of music, theater, practical effects, movies, and even nerdy tabletop games.

Kelly is survived by his parents Bruce and Bonnie Peterson, his siblings Cathi, Craig, Rob and Christy, his beloved wife Kristi, and his four children Oren, Nicole, Marshall, and Matthew.

Though he has gone for now, he will live in the memories of the many people whose lives he touched.

One of The last time I saw Dr Peterson he reminded me that I have known him over half of his life!! He had joined the practice with Dr. Miller and I had an appointment and I was told I would be seeing a different Dr and that was the start of many many memories!! So many stories! The last time we talked he interrupted my teeth cleaning to tell me about his new car !! How many people can say when I go to the dentist it´s fun!! Iam truly sorry for your loss! He will be missed. The Lauzon family has been with Dr Peterson for upwards of 20 years. The kind, professional and sincere welcoming demeanor at every visit always felt like we were part of the family. My boys have known no other dentist.
The news of Dr Peterson passing has me in disbelief. Such an accomplished Dr. But more so, clearly dedicated in faith, a philanthropist and an amazing husband, father, grandfather and mentor! Dr Kelly Peterson, you will be sincerely missed forever. Our Condolences to family and the professional family, our hearts are heavy for your loss, our prayers are for you all.

Dr Peterson was the kindest, most sensitive dentist with regards to my dental fear. Myself and my husband have been patients since around 2009 because of how comfortable he makes the visits.
I appreciate his care so very much.
Thank you, Dr.

Dearest Kristi and family,
We send our love and tender feelings to you at this time of huge loss. Even though we only knew Kelly for a short time, we could tell he has always been a great man. He is someone who blesses the lives of all that he comes in contact with. He certainly did that on our recent Africa Train Trip. Kristi, it was such a joy to travel with you and Kelly through Africa. You both are people full of light and goodness. We could feel that from you and certainly witnessed your overwhelming generosity in blessing the life of Johannes, our African bus driver.
Our love and prayers are with you and your family. Much love, Rob & Diane Prince

I may have only known Kelly for a few months while I had the opportunity to serve as a missionary in the Snohomish ward, but he was one of the coolest guys I had the opportunity to meet on my mission to Washington.

I had the privilege of knowing Dr. Kelly Peterson as both a colleague and a friend. He was an exceptional dentist whose passion for the field was evident in every conversation we had. I´ll always remember our time together in the Spear study club, especially the lively discussions where we´d play devil´s advocate on treatment plans. Kelly had a brilliant mind and a kind heart, and he brought both to his work and his relationships. He will be deeply missed.

Kelly was my best friend ever. He was always kind, thoughtful, funny; we shared so much. From ping pong, tennis, Fresh Aire, double dates, football and basketball games, and endless escapades at Idaho Falls High School -- to rooming together after our missions at BYU, working as guides at the Ramses II exhibit, intramural basketball, and working toward our biology degrees and graduate school. Kelly was absolutely one of a kind.

The most important thing about Kelly: he always made me feel better about myself. I know he genuinely loved me and cared about me. He truly understood me, even with my faults and idiosyncrasies. I know the Good Lord has accepted Kelly with open arms.

I love and miss you already, brother. Godspeed until we meet again!

Kelly and Kristi were the first kind people I met when I moved to Snohomish. Just doing a kind service, their faces stuck with me. Many years later my family and I attended church. Kelly and Kristi introduced themselves, familiarity written all over our faces. The answer came to me, they were the ones who were so kind to us. I was so grateful to know them, and get a chance to say thank you once again. I meant it this time, with love for these shining souls. We got to have a game night and laugh with them. I'm so happy we had these moments with Kelly and his beautiful family. They are in our constant thoughts and prayers. Thank you for being you. We love you.
