Dearest Heidt Family, I was shocked and saddened to discover the death of Ken, whom I had dated in college for three years. Although we had had our trials and tribulations I had always loved your son, brother, friend with all my heart. To know that his siblings had lost a very adventurous soul with his passing. I am so sorry for your loss. Regardless of our past, I never stopped caring for him or his happiness. I am so sorry for your loss. In all sincerity and sympathy, Debbie Brabazon Point Park College, class of 1987.

Dear Mr. Heidt and Family,
I was sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I went to Pitt and Flight School with him and to say he always kept us entertained was an understatement. He had a love of aviation that was contagious to all of us in ROTC. The year in Columbus was a tough one, but with Ken's mechanical background, he made it a little easier learning all the systems. I will think back to all my memories of Ken and remember his mischievous smile and wonder what he was planning next. He was a good man.

I want to express my sympathy to the Heidt family at the loss of their son and brother. Kenny was a one of a kind. Good hearted, fun loving and intelligent.

The last time I saw Ken was in the late 80's when he was training at the Now closed Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento. I picked him up at the base in my '54 F100. If you knew Ken you can imagine the look on his face as I gave him the grand tour of Sacto in that old time machine. Kenny loved those old Fords.

I spent much of my childhood with the Heidt's and was always made to feel loved in their home. Billy, Kenny and I were close in age and we traveled together through adolescence and the turbulent teenage years. For many years I saw Kenny most every day either on the school bus or playing football or baseball in the side yard or at scouts. We got on well. Billy and Kenny shared a bedroom upstairs where we often played (we preferred Steve's room down the hall but I digress). As we grew older, the area between Kenny's and Billy's single beds was littered with a jigsaw puzzle of engine parts. I can remember being repeatedly awe struck by the sheer number of small gears, springs, nuts and bolts that were scattered on large canvass drop cloths. Not being very mechanically inclined myself, I had no idea how Kenny ever got all these heavy metal pieces back together again. But month after month, he disassembled and reassembled things returning them to good working order. This is what I'll remember most about Kenny. He had a gift, an inate understanding of how real things worked. I think it gave him a lot of self confidence and surely it influenced his work and avocations. I always admired him for it.

My deepest condolences to Kenny's wife children and the Heidt family for their loss.

While we lost touch, I have great memories of our youth in Troop 182 together. A great loss. My heartfelt condolences to our past Troop leader, his dad, as well as Kenny's brothers and sisters, and wife/children who I haven't met. My memories center on great times playing mumbly peg, foil dinners, camping, and simple days full of mischief and fun. Nobody will ever forget our award-winning Zip-de-doo-dah skit in Boston. Billy should remember. From what I read, Kenny went on to do some great things, but for me, my memories are only from younger days that seem so vivid. I'll miss reliving these with you Kenny, but maybe we will get our chance yet. Best wishes to his family during this difficult time. -Karl Kovacs (IV)
