Kenneth V. Boyd, 103, of Galena, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Midwest Senior Care Center in Galena. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Greenwood Cemetery in Galena. Military honors will be provided at the graveside by VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193 of Galena, flags will be presented by the VetsRoll of South Beloit, IL. Ken was born on February 18, 1921, in McFarland, WI, to Edward and Gladys (Vinje) Boyd. He graduated from Madison High School in 1939. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces on June 30, 1943, serving as a 1st Lieutenant pilot during World War II until his honorable discharge on December 10, 1945. He married Doris Grant and later married Elva C. Thomson in Chicago, who preceded him in death on October 4, 2014. Ken worked for United Airlines until his retirement. He enjoyed airplanes and solving word search puzzles. He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Bartz; a stepson, George (Helen) Olinares; a brother, Glenn (Pat) Boyd; a close family friend, Shelly (David) Weide; and twenty-nine nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Doris and Elva, two stepsons, Thomas and Jerome Olinares, brothers, Robert, Charles, Edward, Neil, James, Alan, Wendell, and Richard, sisters, Lucille, Izola, and Marjorie, and a son-in-law, Richard Bartz. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to VetsRoll, P.O. Box 26, Beloit, WI 53512-0026 in memory of Ken. Online condolences may be left at www.furlongfuneralchapel.com
