I hope you know that there was nothing that would have stopped irene and i from attending kevins celebration of life.
you know kevin and I had a unique relationship, starting as a subordinate who worked for me to a more than casual aquantance to a friend to a business partner and finally to a best friend.
Just as everything else kevin did when he offered his hand in friendship it was a true and commited gesture.
he will never be forgotten

Dear Sylvie,

I am so saddened and shocked as I just heard about Kevin.

Years before you and I worked together I had worked with Kevin when I was a wrestling manager at Como and Centennial. Kevin and the Banting team joined us on trips and he was such a joy and fun to be around. Always there to talk to and listen.

Years later when we met I found out who you were marrying I knew you would be such a lucky lady to have such a wonderful person in your life and what a perfect, positive fit you two were for one another.
My thoughts go out to you and the boys. I can not imagine what you are going through.

Take care,
Jenny Warren (O'Callaghan)

Dear Mrs. Chin & Family,

I was a student of Mr. Chin at Banting Jr. Secondary in 1984, I can remember being lucky enough to be in his Math and P.E. class, he was larger than life and his teaching
methods were both persuasive and effective. He could always make the class laugh when
class got a little boring and it would uplift everyone so they would pay attention. He was
always very fair to his students and would take time to listen to each of us.
But Mr. Chin was born to be a coach, he caught me in the hall one day and told me I was playing football, I did not dare say no as I had two classes with him and knew my decision hinged on a long year in his classes if I did not play. It was on the field where
Mr. Chin loved to be, regardless of weather or current school events he loved to coach,
I can remember going to football camp before the school year started, he worked us so
hard on the first day of camp that a good number of us did not show up for the second day, I know because I was one of them!
It was his energetic presence that coached us to victory that year. Our Banting football team made it all the way to the Provincial Semifinals and our success was a direct result of Coach Chins love for the game!
It was so good to hear that he has stayed with football so many other students can benefit from
his talents as I did, I still have the trophy he awarded me 23 years ago and it was followed by a good firm handshake that meant so much coming from him.
Mr Chin. leaves behind “Very Large Shoes to Fill” and I know it will be along time before someone comes along that could step into them…
I wish his family all the best in this hard time,

Jim Berladyn Banting Braves, Right Guard 1984.

To the Chin family,

I attended Banting during the early 80's and remember "Mr. Chin" as a big, energetic presence in the school. He seemed always to be around giving his time supporting athletics or engaging students in conversation in the hall. He will be well remembered and dearly missed.

My family and I offer our deepest condolences at such a difficult time.

Dear Mrs. Chin & Family,

I'm so sorry to hear of Kevin's sudden passing. Kevin taught me PE at Banting Jr. High School in the early 1980's. He was kind, enthusiastic, charismatic, always encouraging. I wish I could attend his memorial on Saturday; unfortunately, I will be out of town. My best wishes and my deepest condolences to all of you. Casey & Jordan: your father was a wonderful person. You are in my family's thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely, Ed Chan & family

Dear Family,
I graduated from Vancouver Tech with Kevin. I am devastated at his passing. I always admired Kevin. He was just a really great person to be around, so honest and fair. To me he was a person you looked up to, he always took a stand for what he believed was right. I am so sad the world will be without him. My condolences to you and the many colleagues that knew him. Sincerely,

This is a huge loss for so many. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to Sylvie and the boys, who have suffered the greatest loss of all.

The other great love of Kevin's life was teaching and leading young people. With his passing, the education and sporting communities have also lost a great man. When you count the number of young lives Kevin has touched in a positive way over the years, be it through teaching, high school sports, community sports, or his football camp, it quite literally numbers well into the thousands. That is an amazing legacy, one that will live on for many years to come.

Kevin also influenced an entire generation of coaches. There is a "Kevin Chin Coaching Tree" out there, people who learned from Kevin and who are now out there doing what he did so well. That tree will continue to grow and prosper over the years as well, yet another testament to the life of purpose Kevin led.

Kevin,
I already miss your voice from the classroom across the hall where you helped so many students achieve their potential. I will remember our lengthy, philosophical chats about the martial arts. But it is your honesty and integrity that I will miss most of all.
Sincerely, Jason
