Krysten Hicks

Hicks, Krysten 12/14/1979 ~ 09/20/2014 SACRAMENTO -- Krysten passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 20th after a courageous six year battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. She is survived by her mother Cindy Hicks of Poway and honorary dad Earle Lyons; her father Skip Hicks and his wife Laurie of Georgia; sister Breanne Hicks and niece Taylor of Poway; brother Ash Hicks, his wife Kimberly, niece Alley and nephew Wyatt of Georgia; and goddaughter Cameron Krysten Salhuana. In addition, Krysten leaves behind her Grandmother Nancy Hedrick and Uncle Bill Hedrick of Maryland, grandfather Art Hicks and wife Carol of Georgia, Uncle Troy Hicks and wife Tammy of Virginia, and numerous cousins around the country. Krysten was born in San Jose, grew up in Poway, graduating from Poway High in 1998 with honors. Krysten received two Bachelor's degrees from the University of California at San Diego with majors in Psychology and Political Science and a minor in American Government in 2002. While at UCSD, she was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Krysten graduated from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree and was admitted to the State Bar in 2005. Upon graduation, Krysten was named as the McGeorge Education Law Scholar, receiving a full scholarship to obtain a LL.M. in Government and Public Policy, which was conferred in May 2006. Krysten excelled in her legal career with Meyers Nave in Sacramento, becoming the Assistant City Attorney for Citrus Heights, Pittsburg, and Colusa. She developed an expertise in many areas of municipal law, gave countless presentations and speeches, and had numerous articles published. Krysten would want to be remembered not with sadness but for her enthusiasm, wisdom, kindness, quick wit, and her love for life. She will be sorely missed by family, friends, clients, and all who met her. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 8, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Poway Bernardo Mortuary, 13243 Poway Rd., Poway, with a Rosary to follow at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 9, at 10:30a.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, 13734 Twin Peaks Rd., Poway. A reception will be held at St. Gabriel's 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers Krysten requested donations be made in her name to St. Jude's Children's Cancer Hospital or the Chester Foundation of Sacramento.
