Berkley - Kurt Eli Mayry, 59, passed away peacefully in the grace of God surrounded by family on November 30, 2024. A graduate of Berkley High School and the University of Michigan, Kurt was deeply admired for his unwavering love for his family and his impactful role as an educator, mentor, and source of inspiration within the Michigan film community.

Kurt's success in film production led him to co-found the Motion Picture Institute. His 30+ years as a teacher, mentor, and hands-on leader inspired dreams and launched careers for hundreds of filmmakers and industry professionals.

Kurt will forever be in the hearts of his loving wife, Penny; children, Erika and Gunnar (Molly); parents, Sheila and Willard; siblings, Jane (Derek), Karl (Beth), and Beth (Richard); as well as beloved nieces and nephews, in-laws, friends, and colleagues.
